As you are all aware, it can take some time to send your injectors away for cleaning. Now lets be honest..Are you really getting your own injectors back, are they really new parts..

The ONLY way to be sure is to clean your own. For that task you will need a few bits and pieces..A search on GOOGLE and You Tube is the best to find the bits and pieces..

The only thing you will not be able to find is THIS The K-IC3000 This is used to get the best cleaning possible for BMW K Bike injectors.

This new device allows the user to test individually for coil duty cycle, and to fire the injectors continuously while in an ultrasonic cleaner or running presurised cleaning agent through the injectors.

Manufacture has been limited to a very small number for now. BMW recommends using this unit for absolute best results for cleaning the cermic innners of your K-Bike injectors.

How does it test the coil? You need to use an ohm meter to test the coil. Also when I do injectors you do get yours back. If asked I include your old o-rings and screens. How do you measure the flow with that thing? Only way to be sure they are all flowing the same amount is to measure the flow over a few different rpm ranges and fuel pressures. Also leak test. Most common problem I find on old injectors is leaking. You need to keep the injector under full operating pressure for 60 seconds while closed and not get any dripping. And my turn around time is 24 to 48 hours. (Last 2 weeks were an exception due to no power or Internet due to hurricane Sandy followed by a foot of snow 3 days later.) but all up and running again here. (I did not want to risk using my flow bench on the generator.). But for you do it your self guys I do stock all the replacement parts for the k bike injectors.

RJ The K-IC3000 does actually work. This came about as there are not many places who service injectors in QLD. So we did what any Aussie does when faced with paying rip off prices..improvised!!

It is designed to actuate the injectors one at a time. (not enough amps for any more) You need to manually test the coils with your meter and as for pressure testing...Spare fuel rail/pump and fuel line.Clamp it on and go. (after a bath in the 500w sonic cleaner) Flow rate is whatever looks good in the measureing jug. Smile.

We can order the filter baskets and o-rings and caps locally.
It works out to around AUD$2.00 for each injector to be serviced. Far better than AUD$70.00 each :affraid:quoted in Toowoomba!!!

I never realized things were that expensive down there. Going rate in the states is between $16 and $22 an injector. I charge $15 each plus 10% off for forum members. I should send you a flow bench and you can do them there for a better price and it will be a world wide franchise. Seems there are a lot of K bikes in that part of the world. The flow bench also does oilhead R bikes and even the newer K bikes.

To give you another example of the costs here RJ I bought a 320iBMW sedan car and it needs a few things doing as with the K bikes when we first buy.
A pair of radiator hoses (top and lower) were near $140 from the local auto store (not BMW) so I bought a complete set of cooling hoses (10 different hoses), a gasket for the timing chain cover, an oil line that apparently gives out around 250000kms and a cooling tube for the alternator (small plastic part) I got all of that for $140 plus $26 freight from PA. The retailers here just can't work out why we are shopping overseas and are complaining about us not being patrotic and buying local etc.

This is an example of the pricing difference between the States and OZ, and I have worked in BMW car and bike shops in both places over the years, and recently too:

In '07 I was touring across the south of OZ on my RS Airhead when I noticed a leaking caliper seal at the back end. I went online and got the part number (and US retail price) and then rang the local BMW bike dealer in Melbourne. I was shocked to find out that it was $65 just for the seal kit and that he'd have to order it in from Germany and wanted me to pay the freight. I politely declined his offer. In the US it sells (retail) for $22 and was available to be posted straight away from the Tacoma, WA shop I'd worked in. Since it wasn't leaking terribly badly I asked them to post it to me and in three weeks when I was back up north in Queensland it was on my doorstep from the US for under $30 all up.

That is a small but clear example of the price difference we have to pay Down Under, and our puny dollar is currently worth $1.04752 to the Greenback (www.xe.com/ucc). It's more than the tyranny of distance we are talking about here. It's a greater margin made by distributors and the fact that the US has a far larger buying power than OZ does. Call it the economy of scale. Also, BMWNA bid for and buy their expected parts order from BMW GMBH a year or two in advance and so they have greater sway in what they'll pay than tiny little BMW Australia do.

I'm with Rick and Alby (and the lot) who shop around and go offshore for even the basics, given time constraints, and we all know that a "penny saved' is more for the petrol in our tanks...and that's another $tory too.

At the end of the day, to help dispel a myth some people have in their heads, the parts margin from cost to retail is about 40% for a North American dealer (if the parts manager is buying correctly) on factory parts, and in OZ it's only 35%. What those dealers decide to do with pricing structure (artificially raising retail prices) is up to them given the ability of computers to "matrix" the prices to increase margin.
