Hi everyone!

Seasoned rider here. I used to ride extensively on the street but I moved to the track after one too many close calls with cellphones and minivans. I own a GSXR1000 (pretty blue bike) and a GSXR750 (I only have one picture, during its involuntary dismantling).



I recently picked up a partially parted out '85 K100 that has seen better days. I paid $300.


I've read a little on this forum and I get the distinct impression this is sacrilegious to you beemer folks but I'm turning her into a cafe racer. Think of it this way - She was rotting and now I'm going to make her pretty again (and let her get some air).

I've seen some great information on here and I plan on using this as a technical resource and a host for posting my progress. Thanks for having me!

Yep, more than a few of our members have made café bikes out of the Mighty K. Do a quick search in the Google panel for a squiz at some of the sweet creations. Let's hope it's a bit more effort than a rattle can of matt black. That'd be too easy. And not worthy.

No, it won't be a rattle can and some chrome handlebars. It will be a ridden bike - I plan on commuting with it daily so everything will need to be functional. Adjustable racing style rear sets, clips ons, I have a spare GSXR front end with ohlins forks so those will be employed, 310mm rotors, Brembo RCS master cylinder, I have some spare monoblock brembo calipers, and some adjustable triple clamps. As far as the bling - I'm going matte black (professionally, I'm no painter) and bronze bolts and accents. Bronze pin-striped tank and some bronze accents on the OEM wheels.

I have a CNC router so I'll have some fun making some of the aluminum bits (which will be anodized bronze or black). I'll need custom hubs, rear set brackets, seat mounts, head light mounts, and other things that come along. I plan on doing this right, I'm getting to be too old for a hoodlum bike

you and most of us as well....you will find that the average age is about 40 something and the adage "rarely old and bold" applies well here.....

That's one quick way to dismantle a gixxer! You might find a set of spanners less painful. But at least someone was considerate enough to strip the K for you

Wally I have plenty of used parts here is you need and I am in NJ. I have a set of rear sets for the k100. They were called sport sets. How about a turbo for that baby? Insted of old and bold make it old and crazy. Give me a call if you need anything.

I've been stripping, cleaning, assembling, disassembling, and mocking up bits and pieces. I've put a few things up for sale on ebay and I'm currently shopping some other needed parts. Gixxer front end fits nicely but I'll need to modify the bump-stops to keep the bars from banging the tank, space out the axle, shave the calipers and put some spacers on the rotors. Not too bad for a very nice front-end upgrade.

No, that's as high as she goes. I don't know if you have Harbor Freight stores on that side of the pond, but they have some nicely priced items there: I paid $145 for it
