I stripped the fuel tank off to investigate my ongoing starting troubles and low resistance reading yesterday, as i disconnected the battery i heard a relay clicking.....mmm ignition was off so no relays should be energised.

When i first got the bike in January it had been off the road for several years and needed a bit of tlc soon after getting it on the road i started to get spurious electrical problems which initially were put down to the Loadshed relay i fitted a new one which did not clear the problem, as it turned out it was the starter motor commutator causing the trouble (sorted with help from you guys thanks) i cleaned that up and it curred the gremlins but casting my eye back that was when the battery flattening issues started.

The grey relay is the "new" one as supplied by Motorworks the "Blue" one is the original, its impossible to fit the relay incorrectly due to the pins the new relay is energising as you fit it so i have dumped it and replaced it with the original which i fortunately kept. I will be speaking to Motorworks about this as there no way that should have happened.
Everything seems ok i wont be riding again until the weekend fingers crossed i have taken it off charge we will see if it starts but i am confident that the problem was the relay.

The relay coil shows a resistance of 53 ohms close to the reading i was getting and the circuit is reading clear so it was definitely the culprit.

The relay in the pictures is the ABS power supply.
I see in the pictures that the ABS warning relay is removed.
If your ABS don`t function, you don`t need the ABS power supply relay either.

About relays....BMW don`t follow the standard config on the pin designation, so you can`t mix these with standard relays.
Contact input and coil input (30 & 86) is switched, related to the DIN standard.

The mini relays (as shown relay box, right, front in your picture) follows the DIN standard, tho.

Now i am confused Inge... that relay is the one i changed after following the wiring back from the starter motor, I will pull the tank off again at he weekend and double check it.

The bike is a 93 K75 RT

If it is the ABS then if the relay is out will that stop the warning light flashing (taped over at the moment)

Normaly the the LSR should be the small one at front, right corner....closest to the corner.
The relay you have changed is in the position where the ABS power supply relay usually is mounted.

And ABS related relays and connectors is blue...............

One warning lamp is powered from the relay that allready is removed
(empty socket, it should be four mini relays),
the other warning lamp is powered from the ABS ecu.

I wonder if this has anything to do with my other posts re brake issue...... i will go for a blast after work to see.

I doubt it...since a fault has been detected by the ABS ecu,
the ABS system should be disabled.

But if the brake problem did arise after the wrong relay have been installed........

All is well electrically, bike is holding its charge and starting first touch but the brake issue remains, i wont have chance to check the wiring to the relay until the weekend but i am relieved that the main problem seems to be solved.
