I decided to put a separate post as the messages may get lost in the other posts.

Meet at Stradbally Fayre [Co Laois] tomorrow Saturday 9.30am.

Confirmed sgmayhew and 92KK.

I know Trapper, Comberjohn and 88KE cant make it.

A few more hopefuls.

Route: possibly go south towards Lismore etc, I will have a look later and post some suggestions.

I was just speaking to Bjorn and he is recovering well, planning to collect bike on 20th.

92KK

This run was eventually down to just two of us, sgmayhew and 92KK, but what a day.

As is now usual for these meets we enjoyed glorious sunshine all the way.

The now traditional breakfast started the day. I parked up and had just removed my helmet when Stephen came along.

A nicely chosen route, led by Stephen, took in the route from Stradbally to Carlow, then across country on some spectacular routes that took in the Mount Leinster Drive. Navigating in the traditional manner, ie position of the sun rather than GPS we found some wonderful views. The fantastic gardens and lake at Altamont House http://www.altamontgarden.com made an excellent stop for tea. Unmissable. No entry fee, plenty of picnic tables too, only downside is a gravelled car park but we got over that. Oh, it has toilets too. Cant forget those.

Progressing on we eventually passed by Mount Leinster where paragliders were also enjoying the sunshine and its thermals. A stop for lunch at Graigue by the waters edge, boats all lined up both sides completed the food part of the run! After lunch on to New Ross where we parted company for home.

Stephen has some good photos for posting later.

Cooler was an understatement for the early part of the day. I had put back all my thermal linings and had to use my fleece and also overmitts to avoid cold fingers. Was snug underneath.

OK inertia overcome and I am trying to learn how to post images. With only two of us on the run and one photographer, one person features in most of the pictures. We enjoyed brilliant sunshine. In fact we were so blinded by it sometimes that we lost the way - at least that's my excuse. But we chanced on interesting places and views, and from my standpoint the route around the Blackstairs turned into a real magical mystery tour. Happy days!

Great pics SG, well done on mastering the process. I had a couple of fireball in the eye moments with that low sun myself on Saturday morning! Altamount house is gone on the "to do" list.

Saxon7 wrote:

Saxon - they scene here is fairly lively, despite the weather and especially since the recession people are using their bikes more for commuting etc. Many riders have more than one bike and are slighty more er, mature than you might expect. There is always a charity run on somewhere in the counrty. When you get a rear fine day like that you'll see a lot more of them our roads. And then there's the whole biker scene with the black leather and heavy metal music. So it's pretty much the same as anywhere else....until the EU have legislated us out of existance.

Thank you for photos, nice ones and the mystery tour as you so nicely put it. The photos tell it was a great day.

Altamont House is a definite tea stop...we brought our own tea too. The gardens are really well worth it on a nice day.

I wish all of you a great trip, and would be interested to know if any of you will try the craft and get sea sick sick

It is nice to see how this takes a new direction.....wonder now will we see Crazy Frog and Rick G take a trip over here next summer? We can promise some serious entertainment. Instead of the more usual wheelies and doughnuts perhaps some water events with Vassermusik might be in order!

On a more serious note I cannot be the only one to say that this site has been a great way of meeting some really nice people, both on line and off line. The opportunity of meeting up and enjoying some nice runs definitely improves ones outlook and quality of life.

I would love to see a lunch stop on next years runs that would take in Hover K100 and maybe a chance to see his K go through her paces. Somewhere with a nice beach and somewhere nearby to eat comes to mind. Inch perhaps on Dingle peninsula and possibly Waterville on Ring of Kerry but there are more places too. Over to you Hover K100 because you know your K bike best, maybe a few suggestions for us to work with.

Hi Rick, the bars are not BMW , BUT the right twist grip is R1100R with the brake reservoir cut off, the switch gear packed up from salt water so now has two push button for engines start, Also has GENUINE BMW heated grips, the first for a hovercraft that I know of. Very Happy .

I notice the BMW switchgear failed on Hover K100. I also notice you have both K1100 and K75 models. Which one in your opinion is the better of the two?

I did a tour of the Ducati factory and museum in Bologna and asked our guide why Ducati never raced in the sidecar class. We were immediately ejected as the guide was so insulted at the idea of hitching a sidecar to one of their beautiful machines. We were told to "feck off and buy a BMW" which we did.

I have a small camper trailer that I tow with the K11and Margaret my wife rides the K75 but if it came too only being able to have one bike for the both of us the K75 would win.
It's just a little bit lighter and so smooth, nearly as smooth as my Z1300 Kawasaki which I don't ride anymore coz it's worn out at 275,000km. Strange how a K100 of roughly the same era would still be going and with a ready supply of parts.

That was quick Olaf. It was the "Champagne Bronze" one that was on the run from Stradbally. It is not immaculate but in general good condition. Doesn't really need anything unless you are a fusspot. It has 56k km (approx 34k miles). I bought it from a doctor in Co. Cork and had completed a full service on the bike (all fluids and filters etc.)before I bought it and I had new tyres fitted at Platinum BMW in Bray. He had a quick check on the bike and confirmed work had been carried out. Still not sure if I really want to sell it but if you wish we can arrange a meet. If I remember correctly you are from Cork and I am not too far away in Kilkenny.

Hi Tom and thnaks for that....

I am looking at economics of doing a few jobs to mine or changing it and keeping mine as a donor bike. A feww jobs over winter include the tyres and a few others that might add up to a few euro. I just replaced the head bearings for the run up north and it seems fine. I am up in Kilkenny quite a lot and will get in touch. I remember the bike and like the K bikes enoguh to go another!!

No Prob. KK, I will let you have first look, if you wish, before I advertise it for sale. I am going to give it a good clean and have it presentable first. I too am staying with the K bikes. Great machines. Hoping to do a deal for a friends K75 Ultima with all the Bs&Ws.
Thom.
