After riding the bike for a few weeks now I have noticed that the rubber at the bottom of the rear shock inside the spring has perished and broken apart. Does any one know if this shock rebuild kit on ebay is suitable for the stock shock absorber 1985 K100 RS?

The original shock from a k100 is not rebuildable. The rubber bumper on the bottom can be replaced but you will need a way to compress the spring.

I think it`s the rubber in the mounting eye he have in mind.

He did say inside the spring.

Ali, shock is rebuildable if you find some specialist in neighborhood. I have two workshops in circle of 50 km from Zagreb which do that job for 50 euros, so I believe in UK is easier to find than here. Rubber damper inside spring prevents damage when spring compress to the end (metal to metal contact).

On motorworks you can find original bilstein absorber (just inner telescope) for cca 100 pounds.

Rebuilding a K100 shock is a job for an expert. It needs to be opened using a lathe and then rewelded after the repair and they usually dont last.

Thanks again for the advice I will look at the Motorworks option as I have spring compressors. Would the broken rubber give handling problems?

Probably not but if you hit a real bad bump and bottom the shock it could break around the seal or just blow the seal out.

Ali, to avoid damage, you can mount peace of rubber inside spring. Find rubber tube 30 mm in length, cut it longitudinally and try to push between spring, around the absorber shaft. Thats exactly what I did, before rebuilding shock.

I have a RAM shock as mentioned above and am very happy with it.I did contact a chap in Penrith who would rebuild my standard one in the original case for anyone who wanted it to look original but it was more expensive than importing the Ram Shock from U.K

If you are refering to the rubber bottoming cone that is on the shock shaft, I had the same problem on my Polaris SXS. If you can remove the spring you can heat the eye that connects to the shock shaft enough to loosen the thread lock and it should unscrew easily but do not burn the rubber eye bushing then the rubber cone will slide off. I found replacement ones from Energy Suspension. Make sure to use red threadlock when you reinstall the eye. This is assuming that the eye threads on the shaft and is not welded.

I have ordered a new Hagon shock which should arrive tomorrow, so hopefully back on the road tomorrow night.
