Hi there,

I just replaced the front brake master cylinder, which involved disassembly and reassembly of the throttle linkage in the grip area. My question is: should the throttle grip return to no-throttle position on it's own, or should you have to twist it to throttle down? Mine (my son's) does not return on it's own. I checked the action at the other end of the cable, and if you move the throttle at the end (engine end) it springs back on it's own.

Yes, the throttle grip should return by its own.

If it`s a model w/o bar end weights, it could be that the throttle assy is pushed to much inwards on the bars.

If you got bar end weights, it could be that the throttle assy is too close to the outer end.

tom , just to the right of the master cylinder there is a large phillips head screw , which undoes the chain-cam gear interface between the throttle cable-- chain-- and throttle grip , its a cap that removes to expose the linkages .

just make sure the slack on the geared teeth of the cam is good ...as they can be assembled a tooth or more out of synch with the chain bit .....

just had a thought tom .....there is an option on some models that holds the throttle grip open ....or more precisely adds restriction for the throttle to wind back to origin .....

its a plastic ended bolt that screws in from the bottom of the handlebar assembly -switch area ...that applies presure to the circumference of the throttle grip mechanism in or around the under side of that cam chain linkage deal thing .

just be aware that such a thing exists (made for touring type applications to releive wrist strain ) i havent seen one but im told that its a knurled thumbscrew type thingy .

you might check under the bars to see if there is something there ...(normal right hand thread i expect )

on my bike the previous owner had at some stage lubricated between throttle and handlebars which overtime had turned to a sticky concoction which gave me the same problem took apart cleaned up works fine now

First, sorry I misnamed this thread. It should have said something like "throttle grip release". Anyway, problem solved. It was the throttle stop screw on the bottom of the grip. I loosened it a bit, and the handle snapped back. What a great forum! Thank you all for being so helpful. -Tom
