My speedo stopped working last week, checked and cleaned everything with deoxit including speedo unit, but I cant get the drive out of the transmission. I don't know how to remove the unit, I don't want to break it, there is nothing to grip it with. any ideas how to get it out?

Does it matter which way the two wires are connected as I could not get the cover off with the wires connected.

It's just a push in connector, which should only be held in with the one bolt some anti sieze may be needed as it may be stuck with dirt road grime etc

Try to push it up with some small screwdriver. Carefully, slowly from all sides. Good luck

It has 2 wires which push in to a hole on either side of the unit.

What I see is a sensor that is busted and as it is the older type you are fortunate it lasted this long. You dont need to be too gentle getting it out because it is already shagged. There is one on ebay so grab it as it is a fair price http://www.ebay.com/itm/K1-K1100-K75K100-Speed-Sensor-Pulse-Generator-/160825554820?hash=item2571f33784&item=160825554820&pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr

Of course, you must have meant the final drive.

That eBay unit is secondhand. If a new one is desired I've one listed here:

http://k100rt.aforumfree.com/t4202-misc-oem-k-parts-for-sale

Postage to Scotland from the West coast of the US can't be too much...in fact...

http://ircalc.usps.com/MailServices.aspx?country=10149&m=13&p=0&o=1&mt=19

A reasonable option in your situation.

Or, Motorworks have a new one for £60.46 (about USD$95.00) including VAT but not postage.
