The story starts 13 years ago when i, as a favour for a friend, transported the 1987 k100lt from where it was found, to a draughty garage 100 yards from the coast , near blackpool. At this time the bike refused to start, despite new petrol and battery. Over the next decade, my unmechanical mate took the engine apart in an attempt to cure a lack of compression. When he eventually gave up, (about 3 years ago), he gave the bike to me. I was determined to give the bike a second chance, as it only has 35,000 miles on the clock. The day i picked it up , i was shocked by how nuch the bike had corroded due to the salt air. Aluminium parts were white , and iron or steel parts, frame included were red with rust. The engine internals were scattered around the floor, with the cam and crankshaft journals rusty. ( these were later cleaned up with 2000 wet and dry, and found to be still within service limits when i miked them ) The reason for low compression was worn piston rings, these had gaps of 4.5 mm !!!, that's ten times the max allowed of .45mm. I suspect the original injectors for this wear, presumably dribbling or overfuelling, as they were absent when i got the bike. Fortunately the nicasil bore was unworn, still in spec. The frame was powder coated gloss black, and all alloy parts, including wheels , swingarm, and engine cases powder coated silver.Tank, fairing and body have been sprayed in 2 pack, metallic blue. I've had the bike on the road 2 weeks now, and with about 200 miles on it, i'm still getting used to it ! .One thing that i have changed is the TPS. i'm not too happy about the way that it cuts off fuel at low revs. This seems to make riding the bike very jerky in stop start traffic, so, i've switched the tps function through a switch on the dash. i switch it off in town traffic, and back on for high speed, where the engine braking will be usefull ......... I'ts all very different form my old CX.

Your a brave man tackling the bike in the condition it was left in Sven. That bike should be called Lazarus Very Happy
It's amazing the rings were so bad at such low mileage.
Welcome along. I look forward to seeing your picks.

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like your K needs some good sunny weather to begin with and then much help from the rest of the lunatics on this forum.

i use the k100 now to commute everyday to liverpool (old hall street )..... agree with your comments about this site , i consulted it extensively during the rebuild , and incorporated several 'mods' suggested by members. this site is 'nulli secundus' - second to none !
