What MPH/1000RPM should I expect to see in 5th gear?
I feel either my speedo or rev counter is out. Which should I suspect? John

An LT with a 2.91 final drive will be just north of 4100 rpm at about 100 km/h. 5000 rpm should return a smidge under 120 km/h. RS models with their 'taller' 2.81 ratio go 100+/- at 4000 rpm and should be spot on 120 km/h at 5000 rpm, both needles pointing straight up or forward.

I've got an ex-police 1990 LT. Just did a quick shake-down ride ready for this Thursday's jaunt to Boonah and beyond.

In top gear...
3000rpm: 73Km/h
4000rpm: 95Km/h
FD ratio is stamped at 32/11

Front tyre: 40psi
Rear tyre: 44psi.

It was just a local ride, and didn't have a chance to do 5000, 6000 and 7000 rpm.

So, it seems to translate to 22Km'h / 1000rpm. Dunno what it is in mph, though. (divide by 1.6 or something like that?

That's a pretty accurate way to measure it, Ulrich, even listing the tyre pressures! Last year when I recalibrated my speedo using the Karamba speedo/odo calibration programme (available in the download section of this forum) I was surprised at actually how little the tyre size selected on the screen changed what was shown on the speedo. Going from a 17" rear wheel with a 140/80 tyre to an 18" wheel with a 160/60 tyre showed just a two km/h difference higher at the same rpm. It wasn't worth tearing into the speedo to adjust the teeny tiny weeny little dashpot screw to correct it.

$ince it now read$ a $midge higher at a given rpm with the lower profile tyre that'$ a $ubliminal $afety cu$hion again$t the $peed camera$ $o prevalent in our neck of the wood$. Of cour$e, we all know it'$ for our own good and that road $afety i$ paramount in their mind$ and it'$ not for the good of the $tate'$ coffer$.

:pirat:

In top gear at 1000 rpm, unloaded, my RS is spinning 22km/h, at 2000 rpm it is sitting on 53km/h and at 4000 rpm it is just kissing 101km/h, over-the-road, so there is some variance in the end result at the speedo.

I seem to have 4000rpm at 60mph. Its as close as I can gauge it anyway.
