Hi Guys,

I have a pair of new alternator brushes and am dithering whether to fit them or carry them as spare. The bike is probably running on originals and has 87 000 miles on the clock. What does expereinec tell us about the longevity of these brushes? Are there bikes out there with 200 000 on the originals?

Thanks
Dave

The alternator on a K bike is almost (or) the same as a car one.
I will answer your question by a question: How often do you worry about the brushes on your car's alternator?
Here is the end of your worries Smile

I replaced mine at 155000 when I replaced the bearings, they were well worn but not worn out.

If you are in there and can access the regulator it is only two screws to remove to get the regulator out and have a quick gander at the brushes to check their length. If they are worn below 8 mm sticking out of the holder then change the brushes or more simply just swap the regulator and later replace the brushes in the old one and keep it as a spare.
