A hotbed of tranquility, Springville is situated in the foothills of the Sierra Mountains of California.
Turning right will yield a 35 mile twisty road up into the mountains to an elevation of 7.5 thou ft. Left will take you down to the central California valley.
A blacksmith by trade and training.
I confess that eating up high mileage on a big bike isn't my first calling. I like to take the road less travelled on a dual-sport type. I have a F650GS Dakar for such trips.
For the last three years I have had to cross the USA from one side to the other and back, for work. I contract out to teach blacksmith lessons and most schools are on the East coast.
I have another trip planned for August of next year. Typically a trip registers between 10,000 to 13,000 miles.
I was looking for a heavier bike and fell into an 87 K100 RS - low mileage (if there is such a thing) at 13,000.
I took off date code 1991 tyres and the discs weren't worn so it was low mileage of a sorts.
The bike has issues - but this is California and everyone has issues - luckily I'm a UK transplant and my only issue is finding drinkable beer.
I like to service my own bikes - valves, swing arm/headstock type of thing. Beyond that, I lose ground quite quickly.
