Ok i have the clutch and flywheel out to replace main seal. Noticed that main seal is genuine item but was recessed into housing about .5mm. Not that it concerns me as i am using non genuine seal and will install flush( as per KFreaks advise).

Going to put clutch back in tonight, i have looked at the manual and it states about lube on clutch surfaces. I understand the lube on splines ,wire ring and bush, but not the other surfaces. Can anyone shed some light on this. I'm not used to lube on clutches!

yes, that seems a tad counter intuitive to me also mate, like oiling brakes to stop a squeek.

I agree Beanoldboy, but when you look at the diagram in the manual it sort of makes sense as to the areas being lubed, but cant figure out what with.

Never done a clutch like this before, mainly automotive stuff.

i think the clutch pack and spring plate is located by some pins .....i would be thinking they would require a little lubrication durring maintenance

On the back of the back pressure plate the cone spring touches it and a smear of the molly is need ed there. It is just a thin line and only touches in about 12 places where the red arrows point.

Thanks very much K and Charlie, That makes sense now. I have measured clucth plate, is 5.25mm looks pretty newish. can still see the white printing on the friction face. I think whoever did the clutch must've done the main seal. The only reason i can see for it being pushed too far in.

The spring plate (3) moves over the ring (2) and against (4, as explained above), therefore there is the recommendation to grease those parts lightly where the are in contact. If you use the clutch you push with the clutch rod onto the clutch plate, which then moves forward (folds into itself), but it is held at the outer circumference on the ring and after you let the clutch go it presses ring 4 over the pressure points against the friction disc. Hope that explains?
