Have crashed my 16v k100rs 1992!

Here is the condition before crash https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9IO6V0Unvg

Crash happened when taking a exit turn from a highway and at 15-20 mph (which is very silly)! There was oil on the road and i didn't notice it! Valve cover took the crash and it broke! some scratches to the lower left faring and a bent clutch lever! other than that nothing much happened!!

i purchased the clutch cover for 180$ which was hard to find and only one available in all the internet search i made! i still have to receive it over shipping!

the problem is i noticed that a camshaft bearing cap broke where the valve cover bolts fit (see the photo). in my online search i understood that the camshaft bearing caps cant be changed unless u change the whole head ( which i cant find on sale, to purchase).

My options:

To do some thing and fix this camshaft bearing cap, ( with your suggestions and help).

or to sell the motorcycle as a whole or by parting it out! Have a clean california titile and 38000 miles on it its well maintained and perfectly running till the crash! it has 2 side luggage boxes which were unhurt , comes with tool bag and clymer manual!

i am a student with tight schedule please help me!

That damage to the bearing cap can be fixed. Sidecar Paul on thid forum made a small alloy piece to take place of the bolt hole check out this thread https://www.k100-forum.com/t5241-solvedbroken-camshaft-bearing-cap-suggestions
A good bike is always worth fixing.

Any good engineering shop would be able to make one.

auch ,that valve cover sure took some beating, hope you didnt ?
about the camshaft bearing , i have borrowed one from a spare engine ,
because of a bad thread in it , and i at the moment did not have the Tool for making a new one, and it Works fine after going appr.8000 km.
dont no if it is normally ok , but this time it worked fine
good luck with the reps.Very Happy

Sorry to hear about the crash, guess the main thing is your OK. Gotta be worth fixing, its not the cost, its what the bike means to you.

Don't do it! They don't make good cafe racers, the engine is all wrong. Plus it's a waste of a good bike. With minimal damage like that it'll be easy enough to repair and almost certainly cheaper than converting it to a CF. Keep the faith, it's a great looking machine as it is and it can look as good as it doid before!

Cheers Very Happy
Dave

Using that piece from Sidecar Paul you will be able to fix it.

The camshaft cover can be bought cheap enough secondhand so don't despair. For a feel good factor get it painted before you fit it.

Rick G has given a link to the posted machining dimensions for the piece and there was a suggestion of making a few of them. Perhaps someone would make one here for a small fee and cost of postage....or a local [to you] machine shop might make one up.

My own LT broke the right hand cover in the crash and its actually an easy repair to change these covers too. Like the camshaft cover its lot easier than an inline 4, you might have completely lost the top and bottom crankcases.

Just back from a weekend camping in the Lake District (on the Vincent) so I've only just read this post and a PM from sudhirjin.

I'm happy to make a block for him, but can someone tell me if the 16 valve cam bearings are the same dimensions as the 8 valvers. I've only got an 8 valver to measure.

If they are different, I'll just need the hole centres for a 16 valve cap.

Paul.

Thank you so much every one , Its great to find so much support! i have been busy all week with my college work. I have got the valve cover!

@sidecar paul, Again thanks a lot for this kind of support this makes me feel great about being in this community! i am trying to make the part myself, but if my skill is not enough to make it work, i will let you know the correct dimensions (if they r different from 8v) (i still haven't checked the dimensions as was busy). Thanks again sir!

G'day sudhirjin , X2 with MT350Explorer's comments , as a fellow KRS pilot , please bring it back to original , that is a mickey mouse RS ! , don't give it the CF treatment , it deserves better

My opinion !

JR

Thanks to sidecar paul, I received the part today and it was a very precise fit. I just cut out the broken part of the bearing cap and filed it a bit to make it level. then just put everything back. I will be changing the engine oil tomorrow then i can go test it out.

Thanks again sidecar paul, It was a great fit.

Here are the photos.

Another K saved and a win for the forum. Glad you came out of it ok Sudhirjin.

I think we all stand in awe of Sidecar Paul's work and less than a precise fit wouldn't be expected.

+1!!

I will be forever in awe of SCP's precision metal bashing. The other day I tried to make a support plate for the bottom of the rear shock, a la SCP. Looked at my finished product, compared it to SCPs...mine was my usual crock of s**t, but I dare say it will function. A coat of black paint covers all manner of things.

WELL DONE, Paul!!

Rickmeister.
