This job is being done in a small shed with basic tools. A lot of pictures just don't turn out in the poor lighting and not so good camera.. Will add as I can.

Hi Steve

(been there, done that...) It is looking good. Good luck! I am in the process of putting some of my re-build pictures on the site. A little bit of advice and take it with a grain of salt... it looks like you masked around the BMW logos on the tank? I went through the same thought process but found new logo stickers were quite cheap (approximately $A10 from memory) so it was "easier" to take the old one's off and replace with bright, shiny new ones...

Nope... Everything was removed from the bike before any sanding or painting was done. In most cases I had to take the parts down to original material, plastic/metal because the bike was originally white, then black, but not a real good job. Those are new roundels not stickers. They are not quite perfectly round, one has two flat spots. But I was not going to risk trying to trim them. I can replace those later when I find some better quality bits. They were very cheap thru E-Bay, $4. I know... Ya get what ya pay for!
I am working on the headlight mounting now. Trying to make a good looking mount. The mounting location on the fork triples is a little hard to fit a bracket too! Anyone have any ideas or extra naked headlight brackets??

Thanks for the comments!

Hi Steve I am not sure about the fender but that is a personal thing so if you like it then that is all that matters. I have to say the as a whole it looks pretty damn fine and I think I said somewhere else that it would be lighter than a current GSA which is a statement in itself.

Are you planning some sort of bash guard as we would not want the water pump and hall sensor exposed to too much debris.

A closeup of the headlight set-up would be interesting and are the forks standard as they look longer than normal.

Regards,

Phil

Thanks Phil,

Still looking for a guard and radiator shroud. Standard forks as far as I know. Waiting for a small naked style fairing from a friend to see if that will work. One of the hard parts is hiding the wiring, even if it's shortened it's a mess to hide!

Looking for gaitors and still hoping someone needs LT fairing bits and has naked bike parts to trade. We have had so much rain it's been hard to get anything done this summer.

Will be getting rid of the fairing and it's parts and the radio. Keeping the side bags and mounts.

The paint is more done "to taste" but if I have had just enough beer everything looks good! Even the pearl I tried, and that came out pink! So I need second and third opinions!

Thanks for the comments!

Hi Steve,

It is amazing how beer and/or distance improves the look of all sorts of things Rolling Eyes
but as far as the wiring goes you could try wrapping in self amalgamating tape which will give a black finish and a very professional look assuming you can get easy access to it of course.

Phil

Phil,

Are refering to what I was taught to call pressure sensitive tape. Is that a cloth fiber tape with a tar like substance that sticks to itself even when wet? Found alot in older cars.

Going to try wire looms first as they are cheap and easy. Hopefully they will do the trick.

I need to clean the wire connections anyway so shortening while re-soldering the wires might as well be a part of that process.

Has anyone tried a product called plastic dip? It comes in a 1 pint or quart can and is used to re-coat things with a heavy rubber covering. Like the handle of a pair of pliers. It also comes in a spray and works very well on scratched plastic parts and leaves a thick rubber coating which stays on and is easily repaired. You could spray it on almost any surface you need refinished. Especially for a quick fix. Of course I have no information on is durability over a long period yet when used on a bike. Yet!

Please keep sending me ideas everyone!

Hi Steve,

According to K-Bike it is "polyisobutylene tape" and I used to call it bi-seal but it is a rubberised tape not cloth based but good stuff nonetheless.

Plastic Dip sounds interesting.

I will look at that again when the fender is up higher in it's real position. It is black because it was before, that fenders' off of a Suzuki -ES. The K100 Fender is all white as in other pics. I also have a fender extender I could add to it. Thanks for the input!

Still looking for some C model front side covers/radiator shroud for under the tank. A headlight is inbound..

Headlight shroud is done. Square and it fits just under the gauge cluster. Will post more pics soon. Still need radiator shroud. Also.. Second set of rims is inbound, allowing a second set of tires, dual sport, and the original to be powder coated. Much better than my in shed paint job...
Spending alot of time waiting for the right parts to be located. But even though my schedule has been trounced several times it's been fun.

Very nice pics. Thanks!
That special looks like the key switch was placed on the Air box. The 1100 shows how the radiator looks with a fairly plain screen. Two very nice ideas!
I was looking for a place to relocate the ignition switch, get rid of that panel and clean up that handlebar area. Still unsure about the screen -vs- the shroud around the radiator though!

Bert,

I keep seeing good ideas in those pics... Chrome wheels, exhausts, trick paint and trim, nice air intake ideas,.... I actualy thought about the headlight and ears off an old scooter to put the gauages up front. Nice to see how it would have looked!
Glad it is taking so long because I would have missed all of that! Now I just need a few $ and a few beers to decide! Thanks again.

The K100 is still in bits on the floor of my shed. Getting the tank and wheels powder coated has made me realize I need to re-due the frame and other parts to get a nice match..... SO... It may be a while before she is on the raod again. Doing a few parts at a time with the powder coating.

So...I went out and got a Triumph speedmaster, a 2007 with 3500 on the ticker, $4500. Guys these things are so low cost, it might be worth a look as a second machine. Carbs and electronic pickup, simple design.

Not giving up on the K100 just scratching the itch and giving myself time to do it right!

Does anyone else have a Triumph and what were/are your experiences? My research has found alot of positive feedback.

Hi K-Bike,
A long time ago I remember bikes in Aus did not attract import duty as they had no local market to compete with which seemed a fair and logical thing to me but somewhere along the line one of our wonderful governments changed the policy leading to the prices we have here now.
Now don't get me started on the price of fuel.

Phil

Hi Phil,
It is largely down to the margin that the importer chooses to place on the machine, sadly the same applies to car bits, in particular Volvo it seems that as soon as there is an Australian distributor they try to gouge. The Bilstein shock absorber is a classic example, in NZ we get those via Australian distribution and when I wanted three sets (12 shocks) for our Mercs the price they wanted to sell them for shipped via sea freight to and from Australia and three months delivery to their warehouse for pickup was DOUBLE the price for me to get them airfreight from the US and that took just under seven days to my door!
Regards,
K-BIKE

Yes they are hard plastic and I saw them before. I believe they are from BMW but cannot find them on my catalog. You should question a dealer.
