Team, something weird happened. During a wonderful trip here in the highlands suddenly all kinds of little cracks appreared in my speedo glass. What's all that about?? Anybody has experienced the same?

Seen it in plastics exposed to solvents or acid fumes , also in transparent plastics exposed to sun light for long times.

JAP, I live in Scotland - exposed to sunshine for a long time; we wish! The speedo hasn't been open for months, so I would wonder about the chemicals, however something unusual went on!

My instrument glass has a craze of spider web 'cracks' in it as well. For about $40 I bought a clean, secondhand one from Motorworks UK a coupla months back and have not had time to swap it. I need to repair my odo as well and haven't found the time (or bothered to obtain the plastic gears). There's too much ridin' to be done to be repairin'!

Do the cracks go all the way through or are they what one could call crazing where the cracking is on the surface and is more visible from certain directions. If they don't go all the way through then it should not matter too much as long as they are not obsuring the reading or leaking rain water in. Good secondhand or even new could be the go if you want to replace though.

Yes mine have just done the same - and the perpex fairing screen!!
It looks like a shattered windscreen with toughened glass now. I washed the bike on a warm day, dried it etc and the following day it had all gone crazed. Funny thing tho' is - it appears to be on the inside of the clocks!?!?? It has not penetrated to the surface nor has any moisture in side. perhaps they are stress related??

Same here, washed the bike the day before and indeed it looks like cracked from the inside. I can feel the cracks on the screen though

Washing cracking, looks like a pattern, waht did you use for the washing?

Next time i am going to buy an immaculate bike,wrap in clingfilm and just look at the photos - save getting damaged by soapy water!!,

I saw another post here that kind of says it all - mostly these bike's are twenty plus years old, so the plastic and rubber items are getting brittle or cracking etc just due to age, like most of us owners i expect..

It was just warm soapy water the sorted my clock and screen into a crazed state. so the moral of the story must be... keep em dirty like the wives... maybe not though.

Yeah that guy helped me lots when I had some problems a while ago. He didn't make even a brass razoo out of me but was only too happy to help.

I did get a price on the lens face, which is one of two bolt numbers. Both the same price, i think it was 76 bucks.
They were quick to respond too
