The teacher was going round the class asking each child to tell a story with a moral, she got the usual ones about the Grasshopper and the Ant, Gorge Washington and the Cherry Tree and half a dozen garbled and childlike versions of similar stories, and finally she got to little Johnny who was busting to tell his story.
He told a story about his uncle Mick and the war, he said that his Uncle Mick was pinned down in a fox hole right up near the enemy lines and had only a bottle of Bundy Rum and three bullets left when 13 crazed soldiers came out of a trench not far in front of him and charged down on him screaming like a mad men.
My goodness said the teacher that must have been terrifying for him, but I don’t see any moral in that story. “Well you won’t yet Miss because I haven't finished”, and he went on to tell how his Uncle Mick downed the bottle of rum and shot dead 3 of the approaching soldiers and as they came into the foxhole he stuck his bayonet into 4 more and killed them also. “Good grief” said the teacher “your Uncle Mick certainly was a brave man but what happened to the other 7 soldiers and what is the moral of the story”. “Well if you’ll let me get on with it miss you’ll find out”. So on with it he went and told how his Uncle Mick then bashed 3 more of the soldiers over the head with the empty bottle and killed one and left 2 unconscious and when he hit the next one the bottle broke so he grabbed the rest and cut their throats with the broken bottle. “That’s amazing”, said the teacher “but what is the moral of the story”. Oh said Johnny “I thought that every body round here knows not to mess with my Uncle Mick when he’s been drinking”.
