I'm wondering if anyone knows whether the new design K1100LT radiator overflow tank fits on a K100RT? It's the design where the tank is mounted on the fender bracket just behind the ECU.

Thanks.

I just looked at this issue two days ago. Yes, there's heaps of room for the K1100 coolant tank to fit the K100 behind the battery, even the upper mudguard screw mounts are there, but you won't have any room for the underseat tool tray any longer. If that's no worries for you then you're in...also, you can upgrade to the later model's higher output alternator as well. It needs the room at the back to fit and on some early K models it won't clear the (old style) coolant tank. Cheers.

Thanks TWB. Ah, don't mention the alternator upgrade. I killed my bike with the upgrade I just tried. Right now, the frame is off the engine and I'm struggling with a siezed bolt, preventing me from separating the transmission from the clutch housing!

The reason I thought of the K1100 tank was because of the tight squeeze with the old style K100 tank vis a vis the alternator upgrade. I can't find a revised model for sale, but did see a K1100 for sale. But I don't want to loose the tool box so I won't go anywhere with this idea.

Wish me luck with the stubborn bolt. I'm running out of ideas to getting this unstuck without stripping the hex head.

Which bolt is that? Is there room to drill a small pilot hole then using a larger bit drill the hole big enough to get an EZ-Out started? Bolts can always be replaced. Got any pics of the perpetrator?

If you strip the hex head, drive a larger torx socket into the head of the bolt. It grips the bolt much better than an allan key. I have used this trick on several stuck bolts on my own bike. The act of hammering the socket in may also help to free the bolt.

I have had some like that where I have drilled the head of the bolt and then work on it without the trans in the way It's not always possible as you may not be able to move the trans back far enough to clear the remainder of the bolt.

Don't have a picture but it is the bolt holding the transmission to the clutch housing nearest the right footpeg. Access to it is reasonable. The hex is only starting to deform at the corners; it's not yet useless. I'm waiting for Monday to visit a store to get an impact driver. I've been soaking the bolt in PB Blaster for the past day so hopefully some has soaked in. It's very tight. If I can get my hex head driver in there with an impact driver (means removing the footpeg plate), then I think the bolt will finally budge. It adds some delay to my plans to getting this fixed this weekend.
