Good vid, TWB. It is becoming common practice here for MC to ride with the high beam on in daylight. This is much easier to see than dipped headligt, but does annoy some motorists. The annoyed usually flash their own lights, at which time you can dip your own and switch back to high when you have passed. Naturally, you should dip the light on convoy drivin or folloing behind someone without any intention of passing - just common courtesy.

Most motorists have recognized the reason for this behaviour - and accepted it.

Obviously this does not apply at night.

Unfortunately, the fashion seems to be towards black MC's, black clothing and helmets for riders and black clothing for pedestrians. It may be cool, but not bery visible - and in my view boring as hell.

I've found that if a bike is coming towards you (daytime) with its headlight on high beam, it is difficult to work out how far away the bike is and the speed it is travelling.

Very good point, I hadn't thought of.

Question then becomes which is the more important aspect: Being noticed with difficulty in judging speed and distance or not being seen at all??

I guess I am still leaning to preferring the first.

driving lamps help get noticed ....dont ask me how i know .... all the time i wish i had them on before..... sighs ...i too am a car driver ...and nothing peeves me more than folks driving on high beam towards you .

I was thinking of this very subject of safety lighting yesterday, great minds think alike. I found this mod on a google search and I'm thinking of doing it. Basically you replace the parking light strip with a hi viz led strip....

and the leds are available on that site aswell priced at about £23 sterling for 2 strips which maybe a bit pricey but cheap LED's are a real false economy (ask me how I know:roll: )

I have been trying to source some red leds in the right size to fit into the vacant part of the tail light lens for extra brake lights. the only ones I can find are about $70 and I am not paying that much.

Nice one 88KE that was just what I was planning to do thanks for the info, hope to do it myself this winter.

Those lights look good charlie yet another great idea.

Agreed. I get noticed much more since putting on my daytime driving lights than any other visibility mod -- neon green jacket, high mount braking light, LED parking light, 60/55 headlight.

I built my own rear LED circuits to fill those vacant parts of the brake lens. It was easy. I used LED strips, like this:

Flexible SMD Light strip

Each strip consists of groups of 3 LEDS. This stip can be cut with scissors into any length you want. I created a circuit card of perf board with 9 LEDs (3x3) and wired them in parallel. I used silicone seal to fix the boards in place and wired them into the running lights. It works a treat and cost me only $10 CDN in parts and 2 hours of assembly time. I can post pictures when I have them available
