The K75S that I'm restoring is getting close to trial runs and I want to record the work and current status. In the past I've used the Warranty Information/Service History Booklet that came with the bike. But Orange as I'm calling this bike doesn't have one. The nerve of the previous owner to abandon the bike without its history. The Rider's manual was in the tail section but not the warranty/service booklet.

Any suggestions as to where to get one?  Or Alternatively anyone have suggestions for keeping service information with the bike?

thanks
J.

After speaking with several dealerships, apparently BMW has stopped producing them. At least according to the two shops I spoke with.  They, BMW, no longer sells them. The rationale of one parts man is that everyone uses their computer or smart phone. I don't leave either of those with my bikes.

Any suggestions of an app or software approach?

I keep my maintenance records as text documents on a USB memory stick along with digital service manuals and other servicing information.

Since I do most of my maintenance on an annual basis, I make a list that is dated with the mileage for each maintenance item done on each bike.

I carry the stick on the bike in the tool kit so that if I have a problem I have the bike's history and service manuals handy no mater where I am.  When I travel I carry a tablet that I can plug the stick into.

The stick also makes a great selling point when I sell the bike.

My method for the past decade as the number of bikes increased, is to open a Word document for each by VIN and year/model, then add the details of services done, along with mileage and part numbers/descriptions used, and any odd occurence or item to keep an eye on. I keep this on a laptop which can be brought into the garage or returned to my desk in the home office. The information can easily be stored on an SD card or USB dongle for transport or sharing if the bike's sold.

I tried Excel but found that, even tho' vastly superior for sorting and searching than Word, much too fiddly to set up and for my brain matter to readily connect the dots. I reckon the people who design these otherwise useful software programmes must sit in rooms with no windows and only talk amongst themselves.  Wink
