Have been watching various threads for a while and found heaps of huid stuff here, but haven’t introduced myself yet && not shown what I’m working on, it’s time to do so.

Recently new to K bikes, but have had bikes for a long time, it all started when I sold my Honda CB1300 and purchased a rockster. Just loved the sound and feeling of the boxer engines. Still have that bike, but it’s back in NL.
Been in oz for a while and decided life is too short to not have a bike and bought a bike that my dad started with; well similar. He had a k75 from memory, so looked around and found a great 93 k1100LT. Great bike, and to good to fiddle with.

And I like fiddeling!

So bought another bike, a 2009 R1200R, as my ‘daily’ ride. Again, boxers are great, and the bikes with the Telelever, I enjoy how they handle.

Recently though I bought a very old rusted k100rs. It’s a 89, one of the first ones with ABS. Engine was running, the guy I bought it from out new injectors in it, but clutch cable was gonex so I could not test.

Fast forward, I’ve now replaced front forks (as the original ones were rusted out) (thanks Thom!)
Did all fluids, filters, spark plugs etc. Did the brakes, sorted out some electrical issues, and even took it for a little ride around the block (it’s not registered yet) - runs well; maybe a bit rich.

Still need to find a set of mirrors, and some body panels, but getting there to get it registered and then pull it apart to completely overhaul/rebuild.

Let me see if I can add a picture to this post,

Great to be part of this forum,

Cheers from Perth !

That worked. Note the tank and rear wheel (with disk) borrowed from the k1100; as the ones for the k100 are in bad shape… Wink

Hey All,
Have been quiet here, but that’s not to say that I haven’t been busy. Did a lot of work on the backend of the k100 over the last few weeks.

It started with checking valves and doing those, and at the same time wanted to the splines (did not do those since I picked up the bike)
Fast forward,
- done the valves
- removed everything and replaced the rear main seal
- new clutch
- alternator revision
- starter revision
- overhauled the Center stand
- cleaned up gearbox; swing arm, final drive
- cleaned and painted rear set, foot plates (or whatever they called)
Etc etc.

Putting it all back together now and it’s starting to look like a bike again.

Question for the Ozzie’s here… while I have staburag NPU30, I do read some people (including Chris Harris) use different high moly grease for final drive etc . (Read a lot cheaper as well)

What do you use, and is generally available in Australia? (Or in Perth)
I find it hard to find anything…

(Again, for now I just use npu30)

Cheers, Yuri

Been busy on my K1100lt over the past few months. What started as a paint the fairing job is now a complete rebuild, but progressing steadily, and I’m almost at the stage to do the painting of tank and fairing.

Yesterday polished up the exhaust which came up nice. Knowing the advice is to replace the rubbers (one is broken anyway), are there any replacement rubbers available ? Currently only finding quite expensive (original) ones..

No 12&14

Last question- what color should I make the bike ? What is a nice colour for a k1100lt?

I have used these vibration mounts.  You should be able to find an Aussie Supplier.

https://www.mcmaster.com/products/machine-mounts/vibration-damping-mounts~/metric-general-purpose-vibration-damping-sandwich-mounts-with-studs/

The OEM grommet is pretty reasonable so I would use it rather than trying to find a generic replacement.

As far as color, Shades of grey or red work for me.  They don't show dirt as bad as black or blue.  My K75RT was Mystic Red which was a close match to Ford's Fire Red which is a lot easier to find.

Thanks .75, appreciated. In the end just ordered a new vibration block, and exhaust is nicely fitted again. Also done the hose clamp preventative exhaust header welds fix.

Funny in the color choic.. I didn’t like the red, and that was the main reason to restore the bike in first place. Haha. Thinking about a darker blue metallic now. One of the bmw (car) colours.
Thanks anyway !

One more question for the knowledgeable here.

Replacing all brake lines with braided ones (Venhill) on the K1100LT. Got the complete sets for front and rear and all lines same length as originals. 👍🏼

However - the line from front master cylinder to the metal line going to the ABS Unit. That line now seems to short. Or maybe it’s just not as flexible. Or I might try to route it wrongly. Or a combination of all.

So looking for a picture or help with routing of it. Will add a few pictures of how I’ve currently routed it, but it’s very tight. (And as the bike is on the table, can’t turn the handlebars left/right to see if I do have full reach)

Have any of you changes the brake lines of k1100’s to braided? Any ideas on routing ?

Currently also thinking I might need to bend the metal line a little in the right direction.. but weary about doing that with a 30 year old bit of metal brake line??

Wait. I might have not routed the metal lines correctly when i fitted them back on the frame. To confirm, can any of you tell me what connection on the ABS unit is for the (front) master cylinder? (I didn’t remove the metal lines from the unit)

If I’ve got my initial setup wrong, then I can see how I should have routed the fixed metal line to the other (right) side of frame, giving me plenty of length in the braided hose to master cylinder.

lol. The link below to diagram points it out, I’ve got the lines mixed up. As I have the metal line that should cross over to other (right side of bike) also going straight and pointing down, that mistake was easy to make. So found the issue. 👆 now just to change that metal line when all other bits are on the bike.

Hi All, this thine a question for the k1100LT purists !

So, I’m at the point (finally) ready for paint (going to be  BMW Lemans Blue). But doing a test fit of the fairing while waiting for the weather to be a bit warmer and more predictable.  Got a challenge with the right hand side lower trim panel, a bracket to be more precise.
Hope that one of you can confirm if I have the correct bracket for that location (right hand side, just above/next to engine number). I labelled the bracket I have on the pictures as going that location,  but it doesn’t match the holes on the fairing. (Last hole on the bottom at the back of the rhs fairing) The angle of the bracket in  any position is (way) to steep for the trim panel?

Picture with my finger, I hold the bracket  to where I believe it’s fixed to engine. Notice the angle of where bracket should meet panel. Second pictured is to show the panel, you notice the mounting hole is about horizontal.  Third pic just for show, fairing (in primer) test fitted on bike.
So. Question - for anyone with 93 k1100LT, can you confirm if I have the correct bracket there, and maybe a picture ?  (The manual doesn’t really help me here)

Real OEM says left side, but that’s from front view. Above is from back so to say.

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=0536-USA-09-1993-89V2-BMW-K_1100_LT_0526,_0536_&diagId=46_0217

Bracket No: 3. The one pictured seems
To be quite flat, the one I have there is has a bend and angle.
