No disrespect intended and there has been some really good work gone into the bike... and beauty is in the eye of the beerholder of course.. but they always get the tailpiece wrong in my ill-considered opinion.
99% of them have the tailpiece too short and lacking in symmetry.
I quite like the stock one.
Wanders off.. looking and sounding like the grumpy old bald fat guy he is...

I couldn't get past the fact there was no graffiti covered brick wall in the background and no windblown trash around it.

Best thing BMW ever did was hide that ugly square brick of an engine with a fairing and these nutziods get a nice example and chuck the fairing in the local dumpster.  Maybe if they got all that windblown trash and stuck it to the bike (or what's left of it) they could cover up what has to be one of the ugliest motorcycle engines ever. Fortunately the reliability factor far outweighed the looks factor and made for a great bike.

I think it's one of the best looking engines ever.  I'd like to mount one on a pedestal in the house.  Hang the different valve covers on the wall.  Have jewelry made following the style.

They are a terrific engine but as for mounting it on a pedestal in the lounge I think the bathroom would more suit its looks

And to top if off they put the cylinder head they put the cylinder head on the wrong side. Not to mention the totally worthless helmet lock and the Marquis de Sade seat.

Velocity stacks are genuine into the airbox, at the entrance of each admission hose.
It's nonsense to put one just before the debimeter flap...

It only works if you attach a rare earth magnet to the fuel rail in order to align the gas and ethanol molecules.

I don't much like it either, for lots of reasons. I did get my usual smirk on seeing reuse of the existing wiring loom - it tells me that as usual, the builder doesn't have a f****g clue when it comes to electrics.

Nethertheless, I like this K100. For once, it has a nice shape, with the modified frame that creates a straight line, and the 2 pieces aluminium+fiberglass tank is beautiful.
What a pity that this useless stack is spoiling a nice piece of bike building by revealing a poor comprehension of the way it works...

Yeah, no worries. It's not important in the scheme of things like abuse of power by rotten pollies, their flunkies & other bad actors, and the news that amazing talent Anthony Bourdain committed suicide in France last night. Sad.

Overall it's another fat guy in speedos, but I like what he's done with the fuel tank - an ironic nod to the fact that a lot of the tanks on customs/cafe racers are just fiberglass fancy covering a utilitatiran ally box. Not seen that before, nice one.

Filed for future under 'good ideas I've nicked'.

I have another question for the so-called 'pro builders' too: why insist on keeping the the original fuel tank? The fuel pump doesn't have to go in there, you know. It's not a requirement of a fuel-injected system.

Who says you have to keep the original tank?

Larry's a rarity in that respect. But... bet the pump is still inside the tank. The point that I was trying to make is that if you don't have Larry's money and contacts, you can mount the fuel pump outside the tank and use a different tank entirely. That will completely change the shape of a bike and opens up a whole new ballgame.

Perhaps it's just that many customisers don't know that as long as the fuel pump is fuel-cooled i.e. as long as something cold and volatile is passing through it there won't be a problem. Ask Moto Guzzi. My Cali 1100ie has an external fuel pump that has almost the same flow rate and pressure as the K pump. The only advice that Guzzi give is don't run it without fuel circulating because if you do, the bearings will overheat in no time flat.

When I got my turbo K75 some cheap m*****f***** PO had done a ghetto job of cramming an external fuel pump in under the tank.  It took some work but I was barely able to redo everything and get it back to the standard setup.

I was curious so I emailed Larry and asked him about that bike and it's all custom inside the tank with a non-K fuel pump but you're right that it is still internal.  One advantage of an internal fuel pump is that it reduces clutter and hides the fuel pump.

The reason Larry answers my emails is that he and I have been friends for a long time so I wouldn't recommend people who don't know him sending him questions out of the blue as I doubt he'd answer.  One time when I was at his place he let me take The Beast K1200 out for a little spin:

Fuel pumps

Either stick a cheapo 'in-tank' fuel pump (requires immersion in fuel to cool it) in the tank....or any tank you like.

Or, stick a cheapo 'external' Bosch knock-off anywhere you like. S'easy.

I suspect it doesn't need to be legal or even run.  Most of the people who build these things just truck them around town looking for a brick or concrete wall surrounded by old newspapers and beer cans or maybe a dumpster, where they can take some cool photos for their Craig's List advertisement.

And no doubt correct. Makes me feel better that it's taken me six weeks just to mount a fairing so's it lines up, allows for a decent steering lock, and hopefully won't crack within twenty thousand miles.

BMW Motorrad just released their '9cento' (novochentoh in euro speak I think) concept bike and it has that same exhaust setup.  I  might have to give it a consideration in thirty years or so once it has proven itself

Pack Animal

From nearby (to me) Bend, Oregon, a K75 with an interesting skid plate/protection bars and use of various other model Beemer bits. Not a serious offroader, but it'd get you down the fire roads and gravel tracks with less worry.

That is one that I can relate to - I like the spoked wheels which I considered for my K75 but ended up ruling them out on cost versus practicality in my case.

So the clear plastic tubing as a fuel gauge is a safe idea?

Nothing wrong with that. If the tube fractures, the rest of the bike is probably already severely bent.

I don't understand how this one made it to publication. The dent in the left hand side of the petrol tank, along with the obvious crap paint job (look at the seam mid-tank, bottom), and lack of any distinctive character from any other hack job, leaves me cold. Here, I present to you, in equal parts derision and gobsmacked wonder, the TOMA Custom K1100. Dare I say it?! Put a mudguard on that thing!
