For working two, four hour shifts of our choice, we had a weekend pass to peruse The One Show. We chose Thursday mid-day and Friday morning to work before the gig actually opened to the general pubic. It was basically site set-up, traffic directing, and barrier erecting. It was not a well-oiled machine, but they get it done, and with fun. I did not see much stress going on. Having been to about half of the 15 shows over the years I can say now that it was the best one I've attended. There were many more bikes, some of them truly interesting, a lot of them stock but with unusual provenance. For my tastes, there were far too many HD-like choppers that appear unrideable, but I know that's not always what it's about. The added attraction of a BMX and skate park sponsored by Monster, the Cossack riding team, many vintage and custom cars and hotrods, a moto-x duo who jumped a steel ramp and landed on an massive airbag ramp, and several bands per day, some quite good, more food vendors than years past, always expensive beer (but not mainstream piss this year), and Flat Track Friday, made it a better event in my and my partner's estimation. We'll likely return next year.
I spotted just one K Kustom this year. It was interesting. I'll post the photos I took of it. Not my taste, but it's not the usual run-of-the-mill like we sometimes see here on the forum. The seat/tank line issue was dealt with properly, tho the additional LED lighting scattered throughout was pure distraction.
We did our work, ending at Noon on Friday, then wandered the showgrounds, exploring details, until dark on Friday. I made it home in two hours over 139 miles on the K13. I must have been a "look at that idiot motorcyclist" due to multiple lane changes - admittedly, most Americans haven't a clue about lane discipline, so passing on the right is what you must do. But, hey, I always use my indicator as I shoot into the available space. The show goes on through Sunday arvo.
I will pst some piccies for your perusal imminently. I'm certain an online 'zine will post the lot sooner or later. There was a fair assortment of moto press attending, cameras clicking as heady angles were reached.
