first time posting pics on here.

Took my K75s round Scandinavia and northern Europe in September last year with a mate on his slightly newer BMW Smile .
Bike is a 1987 non abs and I bought it in March 2023 with the intention of  becoming my go to tourer.

We went via Harwich to Hook of Holland, then to Rostock for ferry to Trelleborg Sweden, stopped for pic of Oresund Bridge, then up to nr Mellerud for a couple of days. Had a rideout to Halden in Norway then down to Karlskrona ferry to Gdynia Poland and back through Northern Germany via Berlin, and Holland.

Ran pretty well with a couple of minor glitches - speedo would occasionally stop reading, but when I tapped it it sprang back into life.
[I suspect the excessive movement caused by an incorrect mounting assembly I have since found], other than that, everything was fine and dandy.

 Hi Caveman

Not a great deal more to add - one of the reasons I went for the K75s was to avoid all the drama I've had on previous tours.... owning a Buell does that to you!
Bought the K75s March 23 - had 38k on the clock. Didn't fancy the full RT tourer and the fairing on the s is pretty good unless it's absolutely hoofing down.

Gave it a service ahead of the trip and off we went.
We did 2500 miles in our normal 11 days [including a non riding day in Berlin], which is a nice relaxed pace. Sweden was a bit disappointing - unless you like lakes and trees, but when we crossed into Norway the roads were a lot more fun.

The people were as friendly as expected and most spoke English so my attempts at Swedish were thankfully not tested!
Took ferry from southern Sweden to Poland for a ride across to near Berlin.

The bike ran better than ever in Germany - it must have known it was home....
Despite the satnavs we got lost a few times but who cares when you're touring?

All in all, a great 11 days spent bumbling around.

now, where to go this year? Not been to Spain since pre covid so that's the plan at the mo

cheers
Dave

Thanks Doc.

I too suffer from "chronic irritation" and touring on a k75 seems to ease the pain!

I have always wanted to ride a bit in that part of the world. My brother and I were putting something together when the covid thing hit. Since then I have lost my two best riding partners. My brother crashed out and broke his pelvis and my wife has became fearful of the danger of riding a motorcycle.

Reading reports like yours help keep the dream alive for me. Sounds like a great way to spend 11 days!

Thank You

Congrats on the trip and the leap of faith in an old POS. For what it's worth speedo issue could be corrosion on the pin 23 (look it up, not 100%on the actual) relevant multi connector back of speedo unit. That pin was visibly "crusty" on mine. Scrape and solder, pare and file, presto perfect since. Other spots are sensor on rear drive or its' connector back of tank area. If that fails, circuits internal to the unit itself, all documented here, search will find. G

Not sure the old girl is a POS,  probably just run in at 41k now... lol.

I will certainly have a look at the points you mention.
I was hoping that I might have found the reason, in that the clocks alloy under-plate is missing on mine, replaced by two strips of aluminium acting as spacers/washers.
This is allowing excessive movement as there are no bosses in the rubber mountings.
Every time the speedo failed, a tap on the clocks broughyt it back to life.
I am waiting on delivery of a replacement plate, but I will investigate further whilst it is apart.
Thanks again.

Apart from the needles scraping on the dials, there is another possibility. I have seen one set of clocks behaving in the same way from a bike that had been t-boned (one of mine - I wasn't on it!). On stripping the clocks it turned out that the clockwork return springs were sort of 'looped over themselves'. A gentle push with a small screwdriver helped them to spring back into place. I'm assuming the shock of the impact from the car caused them to get a bit tangled up.

Dam, the only thing I qualify for so far is an annual colonoscopy which is a PITA not to be confused with a POS.

I first read that as PETA because it sounds the same - The People for the Eating of Tasty Animals.

Better get myself off to Specsavers.

No doc.
I am gunna try a ride report so the trip will be reported there, meanwhile Tasmania to Far North Queensland, basically the whole east coast of OZ. The K75C was a one owner 1986 model bought by me some 15 years ago for $1500 aus$ with 150k on the (intermittent) clock. I used to be able to tap it back to life also. Now showing 205000kms and i estimate an extra 10k in my hands at least but no idea whether previous had odometer issues. You made a great choice for a touring bike Doctor, some say the S is the pick of the Ks, I don't have K100 experience (I now have 4! Its called Kpox apparently) so no mate, my POS comment was very tongue in cheek .
Cheers Ghost
