My 85 K100 is running rich and I've heard the water temp sensor may be the culprit.  Truth is it's all original with 80k hauling a sidecar... any thoughts... Shocked

How do you know it's running rich?
Since fuel is unleaded, you can't read the coloration of the plugs to make an inference about how rich is the air-fuel ratio.
It was the lead oxydes resulting from the combustion of the lead dissolved into the leaded fuel that were forming a thin brown layer on the plugs when the AFR was too rich.
Nowadays, the brown coloration of the plug is only the proof that there's a excess of oil into the chamber.

Tell us the symptoms, Vern. MPGs dropping, hard starting, fuel leaking from the muffler joint, acceleration not right? Give us an idea of which fuel system and ignition items have been replaced.

There are many other things that can cause running rich or make it feel like its running rich so go with what Laitch has posted to narrow it down.

Bad fuel pressure regulator.
Broken vacuum pipes [early Ks with bolted tanks have two]
Broken crankcase pipe [ Z pipe] can make if feel lik its running rich.
Bad MAF [Air Flow Meter]
Bad air filter [rare]
Bad injectors [one or more stuck open or sticking]
Bad electrical connections.

I now regard vacuum pipes, vacuum caps, Z pipe as service items and dont leave them in more than 3 years. They are cheap and easy enough to replace but really mess things up when they go wrong.

I would say so.  Then check the engine water temperature sensor.  That seems to be the main source of bad fuel mixes.

It also wouldn't hurt to throw some injector cleaner in the tank, especially if the bike has been sitting idle for an extended time.

That would be more likely within an inch of your life, Vern. Laughing  It doesn't seem to like that way entirely though, does it? How are you getting along with the checklist?
