Well,

As the orginial K series inner pannier bags are no longer available new, I am considering having a set made up locally using my own set as a template for the correct size.  There is a canvas place local to me in Slacks Creek where I had a couple of covers made up for my el cheapo Mitre 10 chairs which have lasted well.  The mob is ozkicanvas.com.au

Yes, there is stuff available online but does anybody wish to pay for a set and find out whether they are durable or fit?  No?  So I decided to start from scratch and have a set made.

I was planning on a basic set without the small external pocket which may make the same fit for both sides.  I might even lend them a pannier to ensure it fits properly.  Canvas is my preferred material instead of the vinyl type stuff and they usually have a colour choice of green or grey.

Things that I would consider are:
  • double layer of canvas on the bottom, or lower half
  • zip side as per original, or
  • a half zip in the middle
  • carrying strap
  • canvas or vinyl material

Open to other suggestions to improve the breed.

But most importantly, is there any interest from others in the greater Brisbane area?  I would buy two sets myself but if there is sufficient interest we could make a bulk order.  No idea of the cost but I expect they would be under $100 each.

Saw that.  Have you bought a set, and if so how are they?

And what is the final cost delivered?

The problem here is the cost of postage from the UK which at the moment is quite expensive and would possibly double the cost.  I would prefer to spend the money locally with a business that I am familiar with which also allows for future modifications.

Thanks for the reply.

I have bought two sets from a UK-based mob and they are of good quality, the price reasonable, the material rugged, the fit in a given shaped pannier is excellent. But with my less than general use the tabs on the zippers are no longer on the zippers after a coupla seasons. I'm not nearby a set to state their name. I got them on eBay.

I have a few BMW sets for the K100 and K1100.

I solved the zipper tab problem thanks to the freebie key rings Motorworks would send in every order. All before Brexit of course but I still have many spares.

After breaking a few zip pull tabs I've resorted to using a loop of para cord.
Regards Martin.

Well that's a good idea as I've run out of motorbikes to use my MW key rings on.

Gaz put me onto a mob in the USofA, called "Kathy's Journey" for my pannier bags.

I have used them twice, once for my yellow K100, and once for my current ride, The Battlestar Gallactica (R1200RT)

V.good quality, fair price considering sending them over here! (But, I've forgotten the actual figures!!)

The Kathy's bags have been around for a long time and have a good reputation. I'm surprised you can still get them.

Not when the fixture for the pulltab breaks clean off and the surface is flat. You then have to drag the zip joiner along with a fingernail to open or close. This happens every time these things go bust. Musta been a cheap batch.

+1 for Kathy's bags.  I have had numerous pannier liners, and hands down, her bags are the best.

Also, check out her tool rolls.  They put the plastic factory rolls to shame.
