SSD (Paul) one of the K Kronies is in need of a key for type 1 panniers the key number is 051. any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Kev. Even if somebody doesn't have a spare but has a 051 key that they could use to cut one would be great. I'm sure I could extract the cash from SSD. He has a K100, but we are modifying the Type 1 panniers  to go on his R100.

Guys, the most difficult part of trying to “cut” one of the type 1 keys is getting or making a blank. There are various attempts listed here on the forum if you can find the threads. I’d be very surprised (but be delighted to hear) if you can find a locksmith who would attempt it.

I’ll have a close look at my Type 1 set of panniers later to see if it is likely that a Type 2/3 style latch could be fitted.

My local locksmith cut some for me, but I wasn't able to find the thread back which had more details, it might have been in the motobrick forum. The blank was slightly different but he was confident that it would work, and it did.

Scraping the bottom of the barrel now, the profile is possibly identical to another number with the groove faces reversed, anyway that's what I found with my key, which I think was 069.

Hi Guys, finally got around to looking at my various sets of BMW panniers regarding the locks.

What I refer to as Type 1 pannier locks are the ones with the lift up flap to access the key slot with the numbered keys that only move about 30 degrees one way or the other to lock/unlock which I have on my R80G/S. Examples below;




Having just measured the external dimensions of my K Bike touring pannier locks and the Type 1 locks, the footprint of each type is only a few millimetres different so I think the easiest solution would be to get hold of a set of these Type 3 pannier locks (example below) - drill out the rivets from the inside of the original locks and rivet the Type 3 set onto the pannier. If the panniers are to be used on a K Bike then there are threads around that describe how to modify the Type 3 lock to allow your ignition key to operate them. I had two K Bikes at one stage and modified the two sets of panniers that I had so that either bike ignition would operate the locks on either set of panniers.




Now you just need to find someone who is doing a cafe job on a K Bike because they won't use the panniers. There might also be a kind soul on this forum who has broken panniers who would be willing to part with the locks.
