Hello All,

A few weeks ago I was out riding on my K75 when the engine did a huge cough then continued as though nothing happened. I was about 50 km from any town at the time. Gave me a huge scare.
About 45 minutes later it did it again only not as big. Then all ok the rest of the way home.

I checked the fuel pump connector at the rear of the tank. Was fine.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced something like this of if there any ideas on what may have been the problem.

I just thought of checking the fuel pump fuse for looseness. I do that next time I am in the workshop.

Check the ignition switch it is possibly going open circuit for a moment. Sounds like the same thing that happened to my K100 many years ago.

+1 on the ignition switch.  I had a couple scares when mine cut out momentarily.  There are instructions in the tech page here for cleaning it.

Same here—a single cough maybe once or twice a month requiring a rolling start by popping the clutch or standing start with the starter button, finally ending with a total shutdown out in the boondocks. K75 cough. 177381

When the key was at On, the Battery light in the cluster wasn't lit. I was able to start it again by repeatedly twisting the key back and forth wiggling it at the same time. After a few attempts, the Battery light would glow; the engine would start and run. I did that a few more times to convince myself it was a switch problem then the next time it started, I was in gear and down the road successfully making the 15 miles to home, only needing to perform the key-wiggling technique one more time. Cleaned contacts with emery cloth and lubricated the assembly the next day.

That was four years ago. No problems have occurred since then but cleaning the switch probably should become part of a maintenance schedule, like next week, maybe. Smile
