I've been packing silicone grease between the seal and the dust seal for the last 20+ years.  I change it once or twice a year or after driving on really dusty roads. It lubes the fork tubes and stops bugs from sticking. After the initial packing it does leave a thicker film which reduces over time. I had just changed the grease but after riding on a really dusty road recently on Nabiac 2000 K road trip I decided to have a look. There was a fair bit of crap suspended in the grease. The grease was white when first packed in just prior to the trip. I know fork gaiters would probably do the same job but i don't like the look of them.
Regards Martin.

A Beemer pilot who doesn't like the look of gaiters!?!?  Perish the thought.

A BMW bike isn't properly attired if it is missing it's gaiters.

I don't have the heart to cover the only chrome bit on my Brick.
Regards Martin.

Because it's the only chrome bit is why you need to cover it.  It's the part the factory neglected.  Chrome, even if it isn't shiny, is a Hardly Dangerous thing.

Which reminds me I need to powder coat my crash bars one of these days.  Paint just ain't doing it.

just put gaiters on mine (not cheap)  , i also pull a old inner tube over the rear shock cable tide at the top , both of these aditions work well and i have enough to keep clean with other bikes , it makes the K100 a very useable runaround for me .  Very Happy

Did you use the ones from Motobins? How did you get on fitting them? I found them too short and very difficult to fit over the slider due to proximity to fork brace.
