For 93 and earlier K1100s, the wires to the 1/4 coil are black/red and green while the wires to the 2/3 coil are black/blue and green.
For 94 and later all wires are green so you figure it out from the length of the wires to the coils.

For 93 and earlier the green wires are switched positive from the ignition switch.
For 94 and later you need to use a voltmeter since both wires to each coil are green.

I don't know if there are numbers by the pins on the bottom of the coils but if there are then Pin 2 is switched 12V from the ignition and Pin 1 is from the Motronic control unit. (Per the BMW wiring diagrams.)

If you've got a 2V Brick, Jibe, K1100 4V coils might eventually overheat your engine's ICU because their primary resistance is ≈80% lower than that of the 2V coils. Let us know how it turns out in the long run.

Well don't you just hate people like me that rush into one problem to make possibly another later on down the road, with that said I've cancelled my order for the coils and will try a locate the correct coils for my 2V .....just desperate to get mine rideable before the weather turns. Thank you everybody for your advice it is very much appreciated but doesn't make me feel any different than silly

Put your bike and VIN in your signature and these things can get picked up earlier.Jibe wrote:Well don't you just hate people like me that rush into one problem to make possibly another later on down the road, with that said I've cancelled my order for the coils and will try a locate the correct coils for my 2V .....just desperate to get mine rideable before the weather turns. Don't feel silly, lots of us read your posts too and didn't twig these were going on a 2v K either. The good thing is that it came to light.

Finding a coil for the K100 2V is challenging. They seem to be out of production so you're needing to find new old stock somewhere or a functioning salvaged part. Don't hesitate too long before buying if you find one.
On the horizon is bikesmith's trial of a Dynatek coil in his Brick as described in this post and the posts following it. It has primary resistance figures close to the original figures of the 2V coil. He bought it when he discovered a faulty coil in his Brick while searching for the cause of an intermittent stall. He eventually narrowed that cause down to what he believes is a faulty fuel injection control unit. He indicates the Brick is running well and he'll be doing extended field testing of both the coil and the FICU on a trip soon.

I did look into those funny enough. I've got a set coming from motoworks, unfortunately no S/N red tops which is gutting but I've got a very good deal some black tops and 6 month warranty at least I will have a spare. Just wanna get riding again. Planning a rebuild during the winter so I will carry on my quest for later coils or research a more fitting moden replacement
