Hey all, I ordered two sets of Ariete seal kits from Moto-bins for the front callipers of my ‘83 K100. Yes, I know this has been covered before and I’ve read (after the purchase) that they don’t fit the early callipers. 
So I took my verniers and measured the new seal against the old seal. Bear in mind the old seals are likely original however they were not leaking.
Ariete .130in/3.30mm
OEM   .112in/2.86mm
Unfortunately I’m unable to measure the depth of the seal rebate but the above measurements show a significant difference in seal thickness of nearly .5mm. 
Anyway, Damien at Moto-bins has looked after me like royalty and has also amended their website to show that these kits do not fit early K callipers. I’ve now ordered sets of the Brembo kits, as others on board here have done. Interestingly (and we’ll documented previously) the BMW part number on the Moto-bins website when searched comes up with R models only. We learn.

It's irrelevant to your problem, but if anyone goes hunting for the later seals and gets told 'we don't have any in stock', ask for a set for Moto Guzzi T3 calipers. They're the same.

I have already flagged this problem as I had found it back in 2018/9 when I got an 83 RS and already had [and still have] 84 K100RT. 84 seals do not fit 83 seals.

Later and early seal kits differ, I already knew that, but then found this issue with 83 K bikes bewing different from 'early' as in 84 Ks.

Dai has mentioned one solution, another is to order seal kits from R bikes as those calipers went on early Ks but opposite way round.

There is more of this kind of thing too. Gas tank cap, clocks, I found others but in most cases a work around was possible for me because of having lots of parts.

Could you replace the calipers with later model units?  I think the mounting points and the rotors are the same as later models.  I think that eliminates the hassle with pad size as well.  I mean, as long as you are rebuilding them, why not a set of used later model units.  Seems to be a lot of them out there.

Thanks Dai, the BMW part number attached to the K100 Ariete rebuild kits state they fit R models spanning ‘76 - ‘92 so definitely something amiss there. I’ll search Brembo for their kits to suit early ‘80 R bikes.

That would be correct. 55mm pads for early calipers and 57mm pads for later ones which you can use sintered pads in.

But there are two different types of the early calipers that take the 55mm pads. Thats where I ran into trouble. A change from 83 to 84. And yes, swapping the calipers to later ones would make sense.

How about some heresy? Very Happy File back the caliper casting by 1.0mm either side of the piston. Problem solved for no additional money (well, only if you don't have to buy the files...). Seriously though, somehow I ended up with just one early caliper, so that's exactly what I did. There's a lot of ally there so you're not destroying structural integrity.

Or grind down the sides of the brake pads? I bought some '55mm' pads that are not quite fitting the early calipers. I just filed the sides until they slipped into the caliper.
