That was absolutely definately numerically true three years ago! Then the plague arrived...

I've got five bricks, and I've often been asked the exact same question, why five motorbikes? I say I need one registered to ride. I need one in almost roadworthy condition so I can get straight back on the road in case my registered one packs up, crashes, gets stolen or something like that. I need one for spare parts. I need one I call my test bike (fairings, tank, seat, and other bits removed for easy access) if I make a suggestion on the forum about a question that's getting tricky, I'll try the suggestion on my test bike to be more sure it's right, before posting the suggestion. 

That adds up to four, so far nobody has noticed that, so if anyone can offer another reason I need another one, I'd be very grateful.

No but it helps.

My 'pat' answer is to ask a question back when the inevitable 'why so many bikes/you can't ride them all at once' comes my way. 'How many books do you have on your shelf? Each one's got a different story to tell, and you can't read them all at once either'.

A friend of mine was asked by his wife why do you need 4 bikes, you can only ride one at a time. He then took her by the hand and went to the back yard stables where she kept five show jumping horses and said while you count the horses I will walk back to the house and when you return with an answer we shall start this conversation again.

Well I have more books about BMW's (and motorcycles in general) than I do bikes - only two bricks and an Aa(R)rh.

The answer is a bit more straightforward if you use female logic.  

Just explain that you have one BMW book for each BMW moto.  If you have to sell one of the motos then you will have to sell a BMW book.  Apparently there is not much money in second hand BMW books because you can still buy new ones.  Therefore no one wants to buy second hand BMW books.

You're being altruistic saving unloved Bricks for future generations. If you don't selfishly step in and do your duty they will be lost and the future world will be a sadder place.
