I've just acquired a k75. I have put about 3000 miles on it. I hope to put a lot more . I'M retired and I plan on traveling. I'm in the process of setting it up to do some traveling.

The first k bike i got was a 87 k100rt and did some touring with it but after a year or so I picked up a 72 75s thinking it would be a good day rider and weekender kind of bike. Turns out I like the 75 so much it's bin coast to coast a couple time and is the bike I pack most often for any trip I take. I hope you get the joy out of yours that I have got out of mine.

Welcome! Like the Caveman, my favorite long distance bike is my K75RT. The K75 motor is as powerful as you will ever need and is a LOT smoother than the K100's. It is a much easier bike to ride for long days in the saddle.

And may I add more miles per tank. That comes in handy if out riding the middle of night or in the less populated areas with fewer gas stations.

Absolutely!!!  While the K75 range is only slightly longer, I can recall situations along Lake Superior and in Wyoming and New Mexico where that extra couple miles came in VERY handy.

It is a dream of mine to build a plain Jane K75 with Paralever, Marzocchis, later four pot Brembos and three spoke wheels (from a K1100RS) for quick, light combat touring. The four cylinder models, while sturdy, stable, solid and able to trundle along with the best of them, are too high frequency tingly for serious kilometre krunching, despite the best efforts at reducing said vibes through careful timing, intake boots, tyre balancing, running at extra-legal speeds & etc. My fingers, toes and arse were still vibing at the end of each day when I rode right round OZ on my K100RS some years back. The K75 is a smoove mover.

I've never ridden any BMW except the 1988 K75S (previously converted to nekkid) I bought about 04, and now the 1987 K75S I have for sale. LOVE the 3 cyl. bricks! I've heard the 100 can be tuned in and balanced to almost 75 smoothness, but have not experienced it. If I ever get my project frankenbike K740RS put together, I may get to putting the left over parts on the 93 K1100, and see what that's like. Enjoy the retirement and the smoothest engine ever made!

Funny thing is I have 3 K100, 92 K100LT [edited], 84 K100RT and 83 K100RS.

None of them displayed the famous 4,000 rpm vibration and run very smoothly. All got balanced on the throttle bodies and TPS in good order.

But one thing makes a huge difference.

Footrest rubbers. And the hanger rubber mounts. They go hard and transmit vibration. Replace them. I discovered it by accident as I had to replace tatty rubbers and then decided to refresh one of the other Ks.
