I'm redoing the wiring on my cafe build, and from looking at the K75 wiring diagram, I can't tell how the clutch and gear switches are connected to the Starter (or the ICU). All I see is a connection to the indicator lights. Can someone help me trace out the wiring to figure out how the gear and clutch switches prevent the bike from starting?

A useful tip with the K wiring:

Brown is ground: brown with a candy stripe indicates a switched ground i.e. somewhere it will get switched to ground to function.
Green is 12v: likewise, green with a candy stripe is a switched 12v.

The starter pushbutton is fed with a switched 12v (black with green stripe) from two sources:

Source 1: the clutch switch, which itself is fed with a switched 12v (green with black stripe - confusing huh?) which comes from the ignition switch via fuse 1. This 'alternative' supply ensures that you can start the bike in gear, but only if the clutch lever is pulled in.
Source 2: the gear position sender. This (also black with green stripe, 'cos it's always at the same potential as the wire from the clutch switch - they join up at the starter switch) comes from the power to the neutral light, which is supplied to it from the gear position indicator circuit. IMPORTANT: there's a diode after the indicator light, which prevents the neutral light illuminating just 'cos you've pulled the clutch lever in. That wouldn't be good, you'd fall off.

Edit: If you have the mental discipline, it's perfectly possible to wire things much more simply: feeding the starter button (black with green stripe) from the clutch switch only - so's you pull the clutch lever in to start. Or, (for heroes only) feed the starter button direct with the green-with-black wire  Shocked. I've done it and, yes, there have been occasions.....

One place I posted that 16v Ks have sidestand switches, 2v engine Ks do not.

Not here, but someone corrected me to say the K75S does also have one.

Can someone confirm if this is in fact correct.?

Hi Olaf,

I have a '91 k75s, it has the same cable operated side stand arrangement as with my k100's. I couldn't see any wiring to it.

That's my thought too, I did not believe it had the side stand electrical cut out and it got heated at the time. I have that clutch operated side stand on my 92 K100LT.

AFAIK there has never been a K75 with that side stand switch. The L-Jetronic system is not set up for it and the Motronic system is set up and disables the injectors.

My '94 K75S had the clutch retracting interlock on the side stand.
