A useful tip with the K wiring:
Brown is ground: brown with a candy stripe indicates a
switched ground i.e. somewhere it will get switched to ground to function.
Green is 12v: likewise, green with a candy stripe is a
switched 12v.
The starter pushbutton is fed with a switched 12v (black with green stripe) from two sources:
Source 1: the clutch switch, which itself is fed with a switched 12v (green with black stripe - confusing huh?) which comes from the ignition switch via fuse 1. This 'alternative' supply ensures that you can start the bike in gear, but only if the clutch lever is pulled in.
Source 2: the gear position sender. This (also black with green stripe, 'cos it's always at the same potential as the wire from the clutch switch - they join up at the starter switch) comes from the power to the neutral light, which is supplied to it from the gear position indicator circuit. IMPORTANT: there's a diode after the indicator light, which prevents the neutral light illuminating just 'cos you've pulled the clutch lever in. That wouldn't be good, you'd fall off.
Edit: If you have the mental discipline, it's perfectly possible to wire things much more simply: feeding the starter button (black with green stripe) from the clutch switch only - so's you pull the clutch lever in to start. Or, (for heroes only) feed the starter button direct with the green-with-black wire
. I've done it and, yes, there have been occasions.....
