My K100 has been superb for 12months apart from a new weird idle issue.  I start the bike from cold, use fast idle and off I go no issues, bike pulls strongly, overtakes well and is returning about 50mpg uk.  once I slow down to a stop though the idle settles down to just over 1k and then slowly drops below like its being starved of fuel but if I twist throttle it picks up fine.  I noticed when it goes like this it also sometimes misses but the weirdest thing is if I kick my side stand out, get off the bike leaving it on it then the  idle increases to normal and it runs without any issues!!

unfortunately I cant ride around at a 75Degree angle so I need to fix it Ha Ha.  Anyone else experienced this?  Give me a starter for ten?  Thanks in advance

Sounds like an in tank problem, pump and/or fuel pickup not correctly located.

I have that issue on an 83 K100RS, previous keeper put in a replacement pump but not correctly so 'runs out of petrol' after using about 13.5 litres. For the moment I just keep it topped up....I also got a K1100LT last October and the PO there has done the same thing!!

Thanks for reply, yes I put a new pump in last year and I noticed the screen was not in best condition, new screen on order now from motor works so I will start at tank and work from that as its an awful job getting your hands and small spanners in!

'its an awful job getting your hands and small spanners in!'

Try doing it on the faired R11xx bikes! Plastics off, tank off, empty tank, access panel off and still not much access room  Crying or Very sad

As the book says, take off the gas cap assembly. If still in difficulty go find a mate that has small hands.

You need to thoroughly flush the rail.  Possibly(probably) rusted internally.  A good soak for a couple days in vinegar followed by a flush with water and compressed air to blow all the water out.

You might want to think about replacing the inlet filters on the injectors as well.

I accidentally put diesel in my K1100 on Christmas Day. I drained off enough to leave about a 10-12% diesel mix. Bike has never been better and the change immediate.

After doing same to my RS too.

No spannering needed.
