Hello all and thanks to the Administrators for letting me join.
I bought a 1992 model K1 new in 1993, and used it as my daily ride for some years, commuting and touring. At one stage, after marrying and introducing my wife to the joys of biking, I even stripped off the rear bodywork and fitted a full touring rig, Givi panniers and a top box. Its all back to standard now and you would never know.
Years passed, and more suitable two up touring bikes were acquired, an R1150 RT, followed by a K1200GT, a Kawasaki 1400GTR and then my current bike, a 2017 R1200RT. Mostly excellent bikes in their own right, but none quite had or has the presence of the K1.
The K1 has spent most of the last decade under cover in the garage, and hasn’t turned a wheel for about five years. I did have it completely refurbished by Motohansa in Sydney but that was a long time ago. I’ve now got time and space to get it on the road again and would be happy to draw on the experience of members to do so safely.
The bike has a touch under 65,000 km on the clock, and the cosmetics are good, apart from some cracking around the front guard caused by cretinous tyre changers. It is Royal Blue with silver graphics - identical to the earlier coded Alaska Blue, which also adorned my two earlier K series bikes, an ‘84 RS, and a ‘90 K75S. I have also been lucky enough to keep a good complete set of the soft luggage which was made especially for the K1. I think step one will be chasing the spiders off the bike and giving it a wash.
Cheers
Steve
