Mazzer, how did you get on with the ULEZ?Mazzer wrote:Hi all, new memeber here, new ti bike building and noob mechanic! Haha after two years off bikes due to work I'm back and want to create my dream bike. I have a 1993 k1100rs to convert to a cafe racer.

I too have recently bought a 1994 k1100rs to turn into a cafe racer but have just received an email from TFL stating they are expanding the ULEZ to include my address. I wasn't planning on using my bike for commuting but don't want to pay £12.5o every time I go for a ride!!

On ULEZ maybe pick up a CAT exhaust and kit, lambda sensor etc. Not sure if you need to change the Motronic unit.. Not generally available but they are out there.

Here's a (somewhat out of date) list of bikes that have passed the individual emmisions test:
https://www.bikerandbike.co.uk/list-pre-euro-3-motorcycles-with-ulez-exemptions/
There's an RD350 on there. Apparently two-stroke have rather low NOx emmissions, and the test doesn't care about whatever else comes out of the pipes.
As I understand it, there's no general approval for K100/K1100; each bike has to go thru an individual test at £175.
There's a topic on this forum : https://www.k100-forum.com/t15284-ulez-london
My interest is rather mercenary - there might be some cheap '90s bikes going later this year...

It's not entirely clear whether historic vehicle status is a rolling 40 years or has been frozen at 1980:92KK 84WW Olaf wrote:I have an 83 K100RS....2 more years and its exempt from it!!!.

I'm hoping the DVLA page is simply out of date. Even so, an '83 bike will likely have to wait until 1984. And vehicles from outside the UK might not be exempt anyway, although they probably can't fine you either.

Yes, Historic status is a rolling 40 year period.
