OK, so here goes. It's Turkey Day in 'Merica. Also known as Thanksgiving. Please let me say a very happy day to those in the United States who are enjoying, perhaps, a pared-down experience for obvious reasons, or enjoying the holiday with family.

We two are home alone this day. No adult children with us, and no grandkids. Our decision to keep it separate is due to a desire to protect the somewhat fragile health of a couple of them and wishing to follow recommended guidelines.

We have much to be thankful for this year despite the difficulties. So, it's the cat, my partner and I enjoying some Autumn sunshine streaming through the window as the turkey and fixins slowly cook in the oven and the fire glows in the woodstove. Here's her irrelevant take on 2020!
Much To Be Thankful For Wine2011
Happy Thanksgiving to all!

'tis a pity that more folks don't feel that way.  I've seen reports that the airports are filled with travelers now.  That portends a surge in covid-19 infections in a couple weeks - just in time for the next two holidays.  Grim.

I'm okay with that. The true odds of catching it are much more favourable when you factor in the option to behave/not behave like a moron.

Why, I don't mind if I do have another slice of that delish homemade pie, made from apples from right out the back door, the day after Thanksgiving. Warm it up a smidge so the smooth, creamy vanilla ice cream melts into it a bit, would ya darl? And another hot cuppa to go with it? Sure. Ta.

We've been making apple pies from the tree in the front garden for a coupla months now. Decided to leave the wee apples for the birds - the blackbirds are hammering hell out of the windfalls. It's absolutely hilarious watching them throw the apples around.

When I moved to NYC in the 80's I lived alone but neighbours and workmates were appalled that I would spend Thanksgiving alone. I accepted an invite and ate my first ever apple pie made with cheese. Heaven. God bless America! Hoping that she has more to be thankful for in the post-shit show Presidency.

I read once, long ago, that the state of Wisconsin (home of the Cheese Heads) has an archaic law on the books that apple pie must be served with melting cheese. Urban myth? I'd say so, as this article suggests, but there was a short-lived law suggesting it:

Odd WI laws

I love cooking as some on the forum have experienced.

I think for that cheese to work you need to use puff pastry to make the apple pie.

A lovely looking apple pie TWB!  I'm glad that we aren't bound by law to have cheese on our apple pie when in Wisconsin - not that there is anything wrong with that and I'd do it in a pinch as long as I get to make the choice.  At the end of the day 'Blessed are the cheese makers (but it applies to all dairy workers in general).'

Still thankful in Canada six weeks after the more muted Canuck Thanksgiving!

Much To Be Thankful For Pie10
The 'pie' in front, a bastardised version of a quiche really, has cheese in it and this is okay since it's my supper.  Even better, the eggs come from the chooks living out in the backyard (garden).  No stout to be had with it tonight but there is my favourite beer to wash it all down.  The other pie is a straight up, no frills old school apple pie - think carburetors, drum brakes and right side up forks and two shocks at the back - lol!

Those both would go down well with any drop, Woodie! It's homemade, hand-rolled out pizza tonight here in our kitchen. We use a smattering of spicy turkey pepperoni, gobs of mozzarella, freshly harvested spinach, a light layer of tomato paste with a few chunks of chopped up tomato from our garden (the last of them before the killing frost), sliced black olives and fresh garlic crushed by me own hands, and also grown out the back. My beer will be a 50/50 mix of Widmer Bros. Hefeweizen and cheap-as Hamm's, the 16oz size from a tin, but poured into a proper pint glass kept in the freezer. Pictures at eleven!

I just got in from a ten or so mile ride to 'bed in' some new Conti Road Attack EVO GT tyres I have just spooned onto a spare set of wheels for the K1300GT. New rubber is very nice. Damn, it's cold out there. The dashboard thermometre was reading 4.5C degrees but going through the air it was likely close to hypothermia. No bad weather, only bad clothes.

Party on Wayne.
