Well today is the 50th anniversary of Black Tot Day.

So for all you seafarers and or just plain drunks, it is time to raise a glass of your favourite RUM to note the passing of that fine old tradition in the Royal Navy of the issue the daily rum ration.

Mine is a Beenleigh Port Barrel Infused Rum, only available from the Distillery.   drunken

It is also a time for me to remember a friend and former K owner who passed last year and joined the Royal Navy when he left school in the U.K.

Here's to Rob.

Many years ago I bought a friend of mine a bottle of rum for Christmas. I had a company van at the time and kept it in the back before I gave it to him. Unfortunately it got broken. I had a lot of embarrassing police stops over that Christmas. Enjoy your tot.

Bundaberg is the nearest I can get over here, but I'm more of an Islay single malt bloke myself.

I'll raise a glass later with an Ardbeg  drunken

I have a bottle of Uigeadail open at the moment but you cannot go past the 10yo.  Although I would recommend the Port Charlotte Heavily Peated 10yo if you get a chance.  Simply sublime.

Meanwhile, waiting for BAE to chime in and tell us about Lagavulin.

Ooooh, Lagavulin. Delicious  santa

I bought my bottle of 10yo Ardbeg on Friday as Tesco have it on special offer at the moment (£37) and as promised, cracked it open last night.

I also have a bottle of Uigeadail and a cask strength edition Laphroig. I've had those two for years in the cupboard waiting for 'that special occasion' to open them. Still waiting  scratch

I have one of these waiting for a very very  special occasion

https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/p/3662/macallan-private-eye

Cost me £40, I bought it when my daughter was born, at this rate it might pay for her wedding.

I was out for a meal with her last night and she had a cocktail made of of white and dark rum !

Yep: went through two bottles of Bushmills Blue 25yo Millenium at £25 a bottle in year 2000. £4K a bottle now - if you can find one.

Currently have left one unopened bottle of the original bottling of Shackleton's Journey plus partway through a bottle of Glen Keith single malt Distillery Edition. Also a couple of glasses out of a £285 bottle of Glen Morangie Portwood that I paid £65 for. I think I told that story in another thread.

The best I can do in my liquor cupboard is a 7/8ths empty 12 year old bottle of The Macallan, a half full (see how positive I am) bottle of Trader Joe's (US-based discount grocer) Kentucky Bourbon, and a fifth of Jack Daniels, untouched, which was sort of gifted to me. I'm not not touching it because it's special. More likely because it's not terribly special.

Bit slow coming to party on this one!
Seems like rum gets a rum deal amongst you whisky fans. Luckily, I enjoy both.

Here’s my rum that I’m not opening anytime soon...black tot day or any other day...a 15 yo Pussers rum from 2005.
To be honest, Pussers isn’t my favorite rum to drink anyway, so the temptation to break the wax seal is quite low!

Oh, yeah, Lagavulin....yum...however it is a bit of a con as I discovered when visiting on the old K100 last year. The malt is all bought in from the main Islay maltings at Port Ellen, Lagavulin add their own local bog water and distill the stuff but then it is sent to mainland Scotland for barrelling and aging in a big non-descript bonded warehouse. Still at least the end product tastes good though!
