I have few friends riding with these LED running lights, and I am very impressed with their high visibility for a consumption of only .75 amps (not a lot more than your parking lights).
A friend went to a rally in Maine, and on her way back, she picked me up a set of them at WhiteHorsePress.
They are very light and can be installed directly on the fiberglass of the fairing. I don't thing you need any reinforcement or extra brackets. They come with a module detecting when the engine is running (certainly detecting an increase of voltage when the alternator is charging). This way, they will not suck on your battery if you are not riding.
However, an extra connection is provided to have a switch controlling the lights. (This is very good if you are camping and don't want to have the ignition ON but want to take advantage of the lights).

The instructions to plug them is very clear and starts like this:

Items needed for install
1) Cold beer, this should be sipped whilst reading these instructions and during the installation. Carlsberg works well, real Ale works better.

This is the truth!

They are well priced at $125 and I can say that they are as good as the more expansive ones ($200 - $300).

WhiteHorsePress usually sells good quality products at very competitive prices and I am fully recommending this company.
If you are riding in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, you have to stop and visit them.

How, by the way, I am typing this message on an HP tablet with the new Windows 8 Operating system. It's only a beta version, but not ready to be on the market. it's a lot of unsupported features, and Microsoft is not ready (yet) to compete with Apple or Android. Sad
