Hey folks - new member here from the locked-down state of Rhode Island. I wanted to join this forum as I'm a long-suffering BMW fanatic of the four-wheeled variety but very much want to add a K1 to my stable.

Looking for a project-grade bike. I like to tinker and bring things back from the brink. If anyone knows of such a bike, please get in touch.

In the meantime, here are some of my babies.

Hello - hunting for a K1 E20D69Ul

Looking forward to hopefully seeing some of you in person in the future.

Best,

Jeff

This one sounds so good it's bound to need work.Laughing The ad says it's hard to find but the color should mitigate that.

Built 2/91 so it's not a 1990 model.

Are Laredo Roses yellow?

Is this market price for decent looking K-1?
Said another, what would be a good price range for a bike that needs work / project bike, as the original posting discussed?

I'm kicking myself for not jumping on a runner locally that was listed for $3K and looked quite fair. That said, I would think a project bike should be under that number by a fair margin.

I rode the K1 for the first time at a rally on the Chesapeake Bay back in 1991, I think. I remember an insect went straight into my eye - visor up - and the young woman who was hired by BMW to lead the test rides (Alem was the company name back then) came over and while sweetly breathing on me, plucked that thing out of my teary eye. I should have marri... bought that K1.

Cripes. When they finished painting that, there must have been no yellow left in the world!

Always want a K1.

Welcome.

A local I know got a goer for $700 which he said the integrated cases alone were worth. He did nothing to it and sold it for $2500, which the new owner put up for $5000. So it's a bit of a lucky dip.

I know many reasons why a brick is good to own, but wonder what fans like about four wheel BM's.
