Hello I'm not quite sure how to use this forum, but I'm sure we're all here for the same reason. We all have a bike that needs attention or upgrades. I just purchased my first BMW and it has 129K miles on it. Needless to say it is going to need a great deal of help. The first thing would be to make it run! I don't have another bike to look at, so there are bound to be several things missing. The bike is a 1987 K100 RT. I know it needs the left mirror, and eventually a working ignition switch. Right now the previous owner installed a toggle switch. It works, but I have no power to the fuel pump, so it cranks but won't start. Dosen't look like I'm going to get to ride before the snow flies. The nights here are getting down to the 30s and the days are dropping off rapidly to the 50's. :@: :cyclops:

A simple toggle switch may not replace the ignition switch.
Look at these schematics Under ignition and you will see that red and green wires should be connected as well as the grey and grey/blue.
Your first expense should be the ignition switch.

I have taken the toggle switch out and checked the contacts, then re-installed it. The previous owner said All I have to do is flip the switch, push the starter button, and it runs just great. (bought it on Ebay) However the tank had a leak and I would have to fix it first. yeah, about 3/8ths of an inch hole. It's fixed and holding. The starter cranks, but the fuel pump has no electricity to it. I've been reading the posts here, and it seems to be a rather common problem. I just finished copying the wiring diagrams, now if I just got along with electrical things......8-(
