Hi all

I just got a 1996 K1100LT.

My wife bought it as a birthday present.

Needs a new exhaust but apart from that seems good.

Never had a touring bike before so it's a bit of a voyage of discovery.

We're going to try a short trip to England in August so if anyone has any touring/camping/equipment advice that'd be great.

Cheers!

Hi folks
Nice to see there's some locals on here. I may need some tech support along the way. The only bike I've ever really done a lot of work on was an old xt600!

On the camping front I think it'll be mid August. Not totally sure yet. And it'll be two up. I've been looking through all the different gear you can get but I've not bought anything yet. Im more worried about cooking than anything else! Not sure what I can make on a wee stove!

Greetings from OZ, camping gear has made huge leaps in compactness and function. I'm now to the point I can get it all in one pannier.
Regards Martin.

She's a keeper!!! And your wife too  Very Happy ! Boom boom!

Welcome from the mid West.

I did likewise got a Remus for one of the K 11's got the other professionally welded. If you are replacing it with a stock do try to get one off a 16v K100RS. The cracked headers issue only arises, to my knowledge, on the k1100 engines. So if you get a second hand one from the k100 its less likely to have unseen stress fractures in the metal.

I had a 16V K100RS that had the exhaust replaced 3 times under warranty before finally being equipped with a Remus.  I got rid of the Remus because it was too loud and replaced it with a 2v K100 exhaust.

On the 16v I own now I have the jubilee clamp around the header pipes.
