Bugga, it's a Dutchie too

On the way home after work, some years ago.

I rode my '04 R1150RT home from work one Saturday evening in the snow. At first light and swirling, it became increasingly heavier and wetter 50kms further on. By the time I arrived at my garage door (remotely opened, thank you very much) it was sticking to the windscreen and visor, 5cm deep and gaining on the ground. I stayed in the far right hand lane (slowest) and stuck in behind large trucks at under 50mph, in their tyre tracks with the hazard lights flashing, reasoning being that they cut marks down to the tarmac and I'd get rear ended anywhere else.

Funny enough, later that evening I was leaning out of the front door to take a photo of the silent beauty of freshly fallen snow, and heard the wood door close and lock behind me. I was in pyjamas, slippers and a t-shirt. The house I was living in was a fortress, the landlord a nut about security and lights, cameras, etc. No one else was home. My partner was babysitting our year old granddaughter, it was near midnight, and she wasn't about to plop her into a car seat and drive ten kms in heavy snow down to rescue me. I crept round the house outside checking all of the doors and windows for a chance. In the end I managed to push out (with a brick) the centre of a man door into the garage, there I simply drilled out the two deadbolt locks to get back into the warmth of the kitchen. Next day I went to a hardware store and had two locks made with the original key. 

When I told the landlord (who is also a friend) about it later on he said with a smile, "Didn't I tell you about the two spare keys hidden outside and in the garage?"

Gotta love surprises

Hard to believe but Waz and I got caught in a snow storm coming home from Roskko's family Bathurst gathering. I at least had the full fairing and Waz was naked, so to speak. Some butt clenching going on there until we hit Crookwell. Had to load Waz into a hot shower to thaw him out, then re hydrate him with a dozen or so beers.
Ah, those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end.

Time has erased that fear and now we laugh about it. Don't know how you Northeners do it. Me hat's off.

Dude loves his sport bikes!  Quite impressive though really.  I've never seen a Fireblade turned into a heavy haulin' Ute before.  That should have opened up all sorts of marketing options for Honda.

It's quite impressive he managed to survive -40c/f and that Putoline have a motorbike-specific engine oil that stays thin enough to run at -50! Hats off to him, but I rather enjoy my woodstove on cold Winter nights and don't wish to wander too far from it or the whikkey bottle. I'll read about it.

+1  When it's cold all I want to do is make the woodpile a bit smaller.  Anything more than a couple inches of snow and the first thing I do in the morning is check the refrigerator and the cupboard to see if I absolutely have to go to town.  If not, I continue with reducing the woodpile.
