Hi Everyone - apologies I seem to have done this in the wrong order by posting elsewhere first.  

This however has proven one thing and that is that the community is very helpful and has already provided me the valuable knowledge on trying to figure out the problems that we face.

The guy that I'm building this bike with is already a member and we look forward to documenting the journey and (hopefully) coming out the other end with a working K100RS!

Back in the day, one of the few Internet resources for our old K bikes was the Yahoo group "kbmw."  The guy who ran it would rip people a new orifice if they joined by asking a question without first introducing themselves by posting a complete resume. Things are a bit more laid back here.
