Greetings,
After a 100 mile freeway blast around the L.A. basin this afternoon, I had to clean my fork legs. Lots of bugs sacrificed their little exoskeletons in an attempt to ruin the fork seals on this wonderful K75. I am a big fan of gaiters, so went searching for relevant threads on this forum. Only found three from long ago. Anyway, I decided to take some measurements of the forks in an attempt to locate some on Amazon and thought I would share the info.
Actual dimensions of my 1993 K75 forks:
Fork tube diameter: 42mm
Fork lower diameter above the brace: 61mm
Length from top of fork lower to bottom yoke (fully extended forks): 220mm +/- 2mm
The "blokes" wanting gaiters were from the UK and Oz, and referenced this BMW part from Motorworks:
http://www.motorworks.co.uk/vlive/Shop/Parts.php?T=6&Q=SUA34910
The site list those dimensions as 40x55x205mm, so it seems it might be a bit short and tight on the fork lower.
Amazon has a lot of choices, but most are the ugly dirt bike style, with pointy accordion bellows. I would like to find some that are a bit nicer looking, like what you might find on an old Triumph or Enfield.
I vaguely recall someone mentioning on a /2 forum that there was a BMW car part for a tie rod end or driveshaft boot that was a good fit, but finding that part will be tricky without a specific year and model.
Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions,
Ian
