G'day All, Replaced the original ignition switch (badly burnt/damaged) with one I had hanging around the spares box. The connector plugs were different the original being white and triangular and the replacement black and squarish. The wiring colours were the same on both plugs. I cut off both plugs and soldered the original
plug onto the replacement ign. switch.
The problem now is that only the parking light comes on when using the handlebar switch. No headlight, or high beam. Fuses are fine.
I suspect it is an issue in the handlebar switch not being compatible with the new ignition switch.
Thank you in advance for any clues.
Cheers
Tom

Check for power out the white/yellow wire, on the right hand switch. Sometimes just turning it on and off a number of times fixes it.

If you have a multimeter (you do have one, don't you Very Happy ), disconnect the ignition switch and check as follows:

1. Pilot light position: slate and green connected, no connections to red or green
2. On position: red and green connected, slate and slate/blue connected

If nothing else Tom, that should assure you that the ignition switch is behaving correctly.

Thank you for reply Daveyson. There is no power  to the white/yellow wire in the switch body. There is also no power to the white/yellow wire in the 9 pin female switch connector under the tank. More digging involved.
Cheers
Tom

I'm thinking you have power going in, but no coming out. Spose time to clean light switch. Check ignition switch too like Dai says.

Thank you for your reply Dai. Just ran the multimeter over the ign.switch connection with these results:-
In parking light (pilot light) position - no connection slate and slate/blue
                                                       no connection red and green

In on position - connection green and red
                       connection slate and slate blue.

More investigation required me thinks.
Cheers
Tom

Word of caution: If you're going to disassemble the parking/headlight on/off switch then I would strongly advise you remove it from the bike and play with it on the workbench.  There's a teeny tiny ball bearing in the slider that you will never find if you drop it in the garage.

Dammit; I just spotted a typo.

1. Pilot light position: slate and green connected, no connections to red or slate/blue
2. On position: red and green connected, slate and slate/blue connected

Thank you Duck and Dai. Did those checks for continuity on the ign. switch and all is correct.
Also thanks for those words of wisdom about the tiny roller bearing. Certainly a trap for young players.
It seems that the problem is not getting power (volts) to the yellow/white wire in the switch. Will ke4ep you posted.
Cheers
Tom

G'day All,
Happy to report that this issue has been solved but I feel a bit of a  Crying or Very sad .
The lack of power to the headlight was caused by a cable not being connected to the battery positive after a roadside repair. The cable is the positive connection to the headlight relays.
Problem solved by some head scratching and gazing into the bike inners when the unconnected cable was spotted beside the battery.
I assumed that by replacing the ignition switch, it was the cause of the problem.
As my little brother (Rickmeister) says "Assumptions are the root of all stuff ups.
Thank you all for your input.
Cheers
Tom
