For the princely sum of a bottle of Canadian Club I swapped for the Police K1100lt. Thinking this would have the ABS1 brain my bike is missing. I wanted to have a spare for my 1992 bike with ABS1 on it. Getting this bike home I find it didn't have the separate ABS units but a combined single unit under the seat. A further problem is I got the rego papers but now find the Vin Tag missing (possibly another reason it isn't registered) The owner lived on a farm and the cattle licked the bike knocked it over and perhaps knocked off the vin tag. The Master cylinder leaked and the owner decided rego plus repairs weren't worth it. Quoted $600 just for the reburb kit for the master. So I find myself in a conundrum.
Would any 1992 series one abs bikes have been retrofitted with the I guess latter series 2 abs units as an upgrade?? Not wanting to stray too far off the authentic 1992 model but wanting to have working abs I am presently in the dithers as to should I do a refit with the uprated series 2 abs unit or not.
I was thinking I could replace the handle bars and that be all I needed to have a comfy bike, Personal injury sees the present bars give me numb hands after half an hour. So no bars have come to light that will solve my arm issue, though time will no doubt provide me with a good set of bars to do the job, that was the only change I really wanted to make and still be able to state the bike was original to the model and year.
I do like the bike and it's appearance. Anyone have a preference for either ABS units? Should I just wait it out? I've just read the other thread on the ABS 1 units and the issues they present could I be waiting for a similar set of issues if I do waut for the ABS 1 brain and fixtures.
SO is it smart to update to this other ABS and the fitting under the seat or is it logical to wait for an ABS 1 brain and fotting to come up some time.
