I'm needing to replace my pump & damper unit on my '87 K75S, and trying not to spend $300+ if I don't really have to... have found quite a bit floating around about the aftermarket fuel pump conversion:

obviously in a perfect world I could just buy the OEM parts all the time - but I just spent a whole heap of dough on a new computer and the girlfriend will not take kindly to me spending another $320 or so on my bike...

I'm a bit whipped yes - but there it is.

anyway - this one is $60 plus about $10 for some shimming material:

In my experience any modern fuel pump intented for an small 4 cilinder fuel injected engine designed to work inside the tank, that properly fits into the tank with a home made ruber clamp, will do the job.
As today, modern cars ar all fuel injected there are plenty on the market.

one more question - I think I'm going to take the pump apart - a la the fantastic picture guide...
can anyone who has done this tell me whether it was necessary to replace any of the rubber bits (o-rings etc)?

Hi Bob,
On your question regarding the filter a number of people have experimented with after-market filters but personally I would use the genuine because they are intended for high pressure.

One caveat worth mentioning about rubber parts is if you replace the in-tank rubber hoses either buy the genuine BMW in-tank hose or be very very sure the hose is intended for total immersion in fuel.

Most fuel hose is only intended to have fuel on the inside and rapidly breaks down when it has fuel on both sides. Many people have had that happen to them and it is a right royal pain to have to pull it out again.

thanks to everyone who replied... I rebuilt my pump today but was unsuccessful.
I was going to post about it here but decided to start a new thread for clarity.

I'll be going the aftermarket route next week when my new vibration damper gets here. I'm sure I'll have more questions then!
