I am new to this forum, but am a member on a few newer model forums. I currently have 4 motorcycles, 2016 R1200 GSA, 2013 K1600GT, 2007 Ducati S4RS and a 1985 K100RS that I acquired over a year ago. I do all my own maintenance and repairs except warranty work.
The K100 is the reason I am here. It has been sitting for a few years and neglected. It was also involved in a fire with some damage to wiring, etc, but was apparently running before the drive shaft disintegrated. It was repaired by previous owner with eBay purchase, but has not been running since the repair.
There are various cosmetic issues as well. I tried in vain to start it, but eventually decided the compression was too low. All 8 valves were also tighter than spec, so I took the head off and relapped the valves. As I had got that far, I decided to replace the piston rings as well (from Deves Rings in Vegas). I then had compression, but still no start. To cut a long story short, I found the great diagnosis file on this forum and with its help found that the wires going to the Throttle position switch were shorted together by the fire, melting the insulation. A repair had been attempted by someone else, but not very well. So the engine is now running and I am working on getting the cosmetics done. I will post some pictures in the main forum for some help I will need with little things, like seat hinges, ECU mount, etc.
